  • Bricks and blocks, blocks and bricks...

Last night, I was smithing some Dwarven Cultural in Kaladim. I droped down into the mines, bought 10 blocks of Brellium and went up to PoK to get them enchanted.

    /em Hands enchanter the blocks

/em picks up a book to read, while waiting for enchanter to do her bid-ness

/enchanter_friend tells you Ummn, Piikaa, you need large bricks, not blocks...

I HATE NOT REMEMBERING THAT PART!!!!!!

I took the blocks back to N-Kal and took a 20-pp per block loss selling them back with max-ally faction and 180 charisma.

My biggest problem is that I just glance through my recipies and see "enchanted block of brellium" and forget that it takes 3 "enchanted large bricks of brellium" to make the "enchanted block". I wish I could say that this was the first time that this has happend, but it's actually the 2nd time I've done this. I'm usually pretty methodical in my tradeskilling, but for some reason, this lesson just wasn't sinking in after the first time.

I've now whipped out the high-liter and a pen for notes next to the recipies for this, we'll see if it helps.

For some reason I have it stuck in my head that I never buy blocks. Perhaps it had to do with the old DE forge bug that would cause 3 large bricks to become an enchanted block way back when >.<

Is it cheaper to downgrade the things in the forge with a chisel, or to sell them back to the vendor and buy the ones you need?

      Just curious.

I still think the whole block/brick/peice system is messed up.

Okay, so it takes 3 large bricks to make a block of ore (Be it regular, acrylia, velium, etc). I can see that, blocks are big and heavy and some of the raw ore is likely lost in the bonding process as you cram the molten metal together with only an unwieldly large hammer as protection. (Unless these forges have large oven mits that we just don't see). But when you break that same block down by striking it with a chizel you get... one brick. ????
Is this chizeling prograss like pealing a carrot, keep scraping off chunks and chunks till it's absolutely perfect and end up throwing away more carrot than we end up eatting?
At the very least we ought to get one large and one small brick out of a block and one small brick and one peice out of a large brick.... but, this is a dead horse, so I digress.

I have a small enchanted brick of brellium in the bank from an accident with the forge. You can downgrade brellium at least.

Poke around the boards often enough, and you'll find one of the innumerable posts reporting that this is a bug that prevents you from getting back more than one of each unstackable item when breaking down ore. Although I've never done it myself, reportedly if someone is grouped with you, they'll see a message that you got two bricks back instead of just one.

Yup, I've seen that.. strange that you don't get both bricks as I know for a fact that you can get more than one item stacked on your cursor.

One such example is the Vah Shir Progressive quest. When you hand your first set of claws in to the NPC you give him both claws and you cloak, you get back upgraded claws and a better cloak. The cloak plops into inventory while both claws are on you cursor... perhaps it has to do with large bricks having the same item #... oh well.

This is exactly the issue. And an issue they either cannot or will not change.

Your right about this, whenever i summon more bandaids, i pop my summon thingy in ammo and keep the shuriken i have there on my cursor, when the casting is done, i pop back the shuriken, drop the summon thingy in inven, and there they are, on my cursor, a fresh stack of gauge.

The problem is that its the same item. You can get multiple items back, but only if they different items or stackable items. If the result is multiple copies of a non-stackable item, then you're not going to get it back.

what about gnomish fireworks? I get four of those everytime I make them and they aren't stackable. I just have to have 4 slots open and when they pop up on my cursor I go down my bag and drop them in one at a time.

the gnomish fireworks are 4 different kinds with 4 different effects and 4 different item IDs.

Any time you make happy dragons, you waste 3 of the fireworks.

It should be noted that if something is placed on your cursor for any reason another one placed there not at the same time, stackable or not, will be lost. Not really an issue for tradeskills directly.. But I've done this enchanting platinum and making vials of mana before.

I've done it imbuing emeralds too. Heaven help me when I imbue one, and don't get it dropped and hit the key to cast the next imbue spell without realizing I still have an emerald on my cursor. POOF. There goes an emerald. /sigh
