  • I need to scream!!!

Normally I hate to see people get screwed by the RNG, but this time it's myself getting screwed.

I am currently 94 combines at 200 smithing skill. Still haven't get 201. This is a very sad night. 355 wis, 227 int, 287 str, 305 dex. Can you say RNG really hates me?

Might want to double check that you have spent the AAs for it. Be a shame if you were wasting time and money.

Looking at his Magelo profile I would say he spend the AAs, just the 200 to 201 can sometimes be one of the hardest points in all tradeskills. For a lot of them the closest triv is 10+ points up.

Yeah, I did spend the aa, first I didn't, so I didn't even count that 10 or so combines, include that, it would put me at 104 when I made the post, but finally, at 117 combines (without counting the one before aa), 201 finally come. Then 202, 203, 204, 205 within 30 combines. Can you say RNG is really tricky?

Not "tricky", it's "streaky" and not so very random.

It would, it often seems, be more appropriate to call it a "Similar Number Generator"

Actually, if you read some of the latest research into random numbers, they are far more streaky than people expect.

To put it into perspective, if you flip a coin 100 times, you will probably get a run of 5-10 of either heads or tails in a row. But if you ask a person to write down what they expect of 100 coin flips, they will never include a streak that long.

So EQ's RNG could be close to an "ideal" random number, and still show these streaks.

I cannot help but feel that the averge number of combines per point is about 25. I would not be surprised if it is programmed in there somewhere. I mean check out yours. 5 points for 147 combines ? Roughly 29/30 there. I know myself if I had a hell level it was followed quickly once broken by a good streak. If I was plodding along with a skillup every 20 odd combines, then had a good streak, I knew I had a hell level coming.

                re

Grats for breaking through that streak.

Me, I seem to always get stuck with the hell levels lately in tailoring. The last 8 points have taken me about 500 combines to get (no I am not joking). I have the numbers at home, but I am pretty sure it is upwards of 475. So that is an average of over 50 combines per skill point. It would be worth it if I could get a great streak in the next 10 points to make up for it, but somehow I don't see that happening

117 combines is a baby hell level, count yourself as lucky, if this has been your worst.

people dont actually get screwed by the RNG

Basically people forget that they owe the RNG for their easy skillups and it just wants to collect its dues

I have NEVER heard a person complain that it took too few combines/attempts for them to skill up
