  • The horrors of being married to ......

    ....an obsessive-compulsive tradeskiller.

I am bad. My husband makes me look like an amateur.

It does not help that he sleepwalks and that he sometimes brings playing EQ into his sleepwalking adventures.

He has dressed me while he's been sound asleep, cramming his own shoes on my feet. He has awakened me with warnings of undead in the back yard and they were going to kick the %^&$ out of me if I didn't stand up on incoming. We've had strangers standing in the corner, giant ticks in the window, and worms on the ceiling fan. I have gotten his to go back to bed quietly after telling him that the mage pet cons blue to me.

    /boggle

Last night, however, was the best.

He had gone into a combine frenzy, making 3 ceramic totems of xegony, 2 pairs of earthen leather sleeves and one pair of the legs. He was diligent in tracking down all our guild mates to get the components so he could do the combines before he ran off to meet us at a raid, so he could hand the stuff out when he got there.

Something in that tracking down process triggered....something.....

I awoke to the howls of his cat (who we found trembling in the morning). The commotion was evidently caused by my husband's insistence that "something he needed" was spawning in our house - and someone else was there trying to get it! "Something he needed" translates into some tradekill component. I could not figure out if the cat was a spawn or the person after the spawn, but it did not matter as he struggled with the 18-pound terrified animal. Luckily, it is a very strong cat, who was smart enough to hide when Daddy was encouraged to let him go.

I know people who take their jobs a bit seriously and tend to bring their work home. This, however, is taking that a bit far, don't you think?

*sighs and tries to get some sleep*

I'll admit to looking at the three obviously high quality cat pelts running around on their own four feet... but ya know, that's as far as I've gone.

Ok, I am now very happy that my tradeskilling husband is only an insomniac sometimes...and doesn't sleepwalk(and by the way...both our cats are happy too).

        Wow.

        I laughed, I cried, I was terrified.

        Wow.

Perhaps your husband is hitting the Evercrack a little too hard

          ROFL!

I've never heard of anything like that.

I'd put a lock on your bedroom door. You don't want him going to your neighbors in search of Human Parts for illusion potions...

Seriously though, isn't there anything that can remedy sleep walking like that?

The sleep walking is not all that frequent - it is just often - dramatic - when it does happen.

Wow....I sat here thinking of some of my escapades....like my mate not waking up to go take care of the screaming baby, because they were waiting all night for this uber rare spawn and it was just about time.....making EQ referrences about RL events....and the one that still brings tears to my mates eyes from howling laughter....

My alarm clock went off at 620, like it does every (work) morning. I opened my eyes, and looking at the clock, began cursing in the most vile manner, and repeatedly hitting the alarm clock. My mate rolled over and (concerned) asked what was the matter. I exclaimed that I couldn't believe I was naked at my bind point again! (I usually sleep in the buff)

Now what makes it even more humorous, was at 630 when the alarm (snooze) went off again, I got up, and grabbed my clothes and headed for the bathroom, and THEN heard her laughter/sobbing, and turned around and asked her what was up. She explained, and I *do* remember saying the part about being naked at my bind point, but not the cursing. And my hands did hurt pretty bad from abusing the alarm clock.....

Uhm, while this does have it's humor aspects, all said, this sounds like quite the problem - this poor guy needs some serious help with his sleep walking - what's to stop him from trying to make some lion fillets out of the cat next time or god forbid, mistake you for a giant spider or whatever?
                    Cigarskunk!
No more EQ for me till they fix the crash bug.

*nod* I see the concern, but we've both spoken to doctors. I am a very light sleeper and in the 8 years I have spent sleeping by his side, he's done something like this maybe once a year. I always wakes up and remain calm. He's very protective of me - he wanted to make sure I was standing as the undead were INC! so I wouldn't get the %^&( kicked out of me.

I think it is games in general.

When we would get home after a late night out playing Magic, he would sometimes talk in his sleep. I remember the night when he made me get out of bed with him and tear the bed apart because there were "worms crawling all over it" - someone there had been playing a worm deck. He was very insistent that I get up so I wouldn't get hurt.

I have learned to humor him.

The night I heard him chatting away in his sleep, I listened.
I heard: "All my land is untapped"
I replied: "I tap it with my Icy Manipulator"
                      *long pause*
he says: "*sigh* you're such a weenie"

Since I lose sleep over it, it is at least entertaining.
