  • OT - I thought it was bad before

After one of the patches, somethings changed, I can't get on, still can't get on.. /em slamming head against monitor screen in hopes that the humor will apease the gods still can't get on..

Reinstallling didn't help, removing ini files didn't work.. tech support not successful.. I finally had to do the one thing I never thought I would.. give up

I know its not tradeskill related.. I'm just going through withdrawels right now.. I can't get online and continue collecting even more silk or pelts..

Guess I continue being a hopeless addict and even if I can't get online, keep paying for the account, with the hope that maybe another patch will work and let me on finally..

    Take care all..

    *hugs*

Is this all servers for you? Or just test? I haven't been able to get onto test since they started doing pathing changes on there. Still haven't figured out what caused it.

So far, both the test server and the proddie servers. I get to the server select screen, click on play and dumped to desktop. Didn't start until after the patch on the 8th..

      Ah well, take care all..

I keep looking at my cat and wondering what kind of pelt she would drop.

Not encouraging to hear, Ladyskunk. I got the dreaded "you have an active character" message last night and am still unable to access my main account. It happened as I switched to a character who was camped in Bazaar, as most of mine are for ease of doing transfers using my trader on my second account.

I tried complete file check, tried deleting Bazaar files and re-downloading them, tried the GM in the chatroom, tried turning the computer clear off for a period of hours, tried /petition from my second acount, tried an email to support. We'll see how long this lasts...sigh.

I'm the type that plays before work, at lunch time and every evening, so this is going to be uncomfortable to say the least. At least I can wave at my guildies from my second account (which is on my old computer and really useless except for trader/transfers.

The GM in the chatroom said that SOMETIMES a worldkick and walkout works and sometimes it doesn't. What concerns me more and makes this a primal scream is that he said "and if we get you back on, stay away from the Bazaar until we get it fixed or the same thing will happen again."

Duh! If I cannot access Bazaar, I effectively cannot play. I don't make my pp from fighting, I make it from tradeskilling sales. I watch Bazaar closely for bargains on needed components which enables me to do some items I can only attempt if I get a bargain basement price. I have different skills on different alts, so I make at least half a dozen transfers a day, moving pp and components and subcombines from alt to alt as I make items. And the "until we get Bazaar fixed" timeframe is not encouraging, since I don't think it has truly been fixed since PoP got installed and maybe before.

        Sigh....

          re.

I get to the server select screen, click on play and dumped to desktop
i've had the same problem on my trader account since the patch on the 8th

i have managed to get in once since then, to do this i had to:

          - disable all sound devices under windows

          - set windows desktop to 16bit colour

          - patch to test server and grab a copy of their eqmain.dll file

          - quit out, restart and patch to main servers (i play on a normal server)

          - once patch has run, copy the eqmain.dll file from test into my eq folder and click play

          - go into options screen in eq and disable all models / sound / graphics options

          - log in and pray

that worked once (i got bored and decided to troubleshoot the problem myself) and i managed to get into the game, to see a message that they were bringing servers down for a short patch in 20 minutes

that patch then broke the game for me again, using the eqmain.dll file from test server from before 08/04/2003 (they've patched test server one also now) i can get to server select, but clicking play there crashes me to desktop, no warning, no errors

sofar response on the everquest tech service message board has been to say that the soundcard i was using is now 'not supported' and to suggest that i update my graphics card drivers.. i'm running the latest detonator drivers from nvidia and my sound has worked fine for 8 months before that patch

there's a fair amount of people that have this problem, and a lot of them are screaming for sony to rollback the patch files to ones that actually worked

my personal feeling on this is that it's a problem in their code and how it deals with certain soundcards under windows98.. my main pc runs windows2000 and it works fine, it's my trader account pc that has the problem.. i'm getting another copy of windows 2000 tomorrow though so i may installing that to test

I have a guildmate who's suffering from a similar problem right now. She picks her character, and then when she logs into the game, her screen is completely black. She has to power down in order to get out.

I'm using Windows XP on a computer bought new in December with ATI Radeon 9700, etc. The problem should NOT be my computer, which I bought specifically to be able to play the game.

We've had a similar problem - well, ish.

Once we get to character select screen, we can't log in. We can't do anything except CTL-ALT-DEL and try again. Started with the first patch in the last patch series (I think there were 3? back-to-back).

Running Windows XP... not sure what the other specs are on the computer because I'm a bad geek and don't memorize my system specs... but basically wanted to say, just having Windows XP doesn't solve the issue.

                  Good luck!

I had a lot of problems since the patch. One thing I found that seemed to work was making sure my desktop settings were the same as the ingame settings before I logged in. Also you might want to try turning windowed mode on/off with the UI file.

                      You could try running

                      ipconfig /flushdns

from a command line prompt to see if its your resolver cache thats been mangled. Its very rare, but it -does- happen (sometimes simply due to malfunctioning hardware spewing false data across the net).

Also, mapping any EQ server via a host file (basically telling your machine that servername is at -that- IP regardless of what the rest of the world think it is) is a no-no. EQ servers do change IP's, albeit rarely. However it only takes one wrong entry to deny you access at some point, hehe.

I am -assuming- you have done a full power cycle, but knowing 1 of my eq rigs have been running since last summer, I thought I'd mention it. IE, cutting power to, and restarting your (possible) cable modem/ router/ computer, preferably in an order that starts with whatever hardware is closest to your ISP, and ends up at your computer.

Ofcourse another thing to consider is that patch days leaves a lot of people surfing and people surfing often wind up with funny programs that opens up ports out into the world which may or may not be conflicting with some hardcoded port of EQ's. Ad-aware which is free from somewhere off the web is pretty nifty to get rid of a lot of, uh, "enhancing" programs.

                        Login Probs

As to Penny's problem - I know her configuration (I told her what to buy *grin*) so her rig isn't the problem. I've been having similar problems, though I attributed it to the (temporary) change from broadband to dialup. Sometimes I go linkdead and cannot get back in, requiring a complete reboot. Sometimes I log in and before I even get on I get the dreaded "You have been disconnected" message. And at other times I get a "stealth" linkdead where everything seems normal (other than slow response times to action in-game) and then I'm at the main screen.

Hmmm. If you're just crashing to desktop, I suspect that something might be wonky with your video. I have a problem like this sometimes due to a "quirk" of my PC where the vidcard doesn't intialize correctly; the desktop works fine, and so do the first few screens of EQ, but as soon as I try to do anything 3D with it, boom. Hard reboot solves the problem for me most of the time, but... yeah. If you crash after the loading screen but before character select, video is prolly the issue.
