    Dear Procrastinators

I hate it when you put off doing their taxes until the last minute. Not the last day, but the last actual minute. You got your W2s at the end of January. Not yesterday. Don't ruin my day because you put it off.

You drive from post office to post office looking for the forms to file your taxes on April 15th, complaining and generally spreading bad cheer around. Sorry, it isn't my fault you let it slide. You knew how long ago that income taxes had to be filed?

I really hate it when you drive like morons, endangering others, to get to the post office to get their returns postmarked before midnight... and don't have your return envelopes stamped. You cut me off, so you could WAIT IN LINE?

My friend saw a hit-and-run accident last night. (The guy claims he left because he had to get to the post office before midnight.) Two teenagers ended up in the hospital, so he could get back a hundred dollars? Guess what? YOU CAN'T FILE FROM JAIL, IF YOUR RETURNS ARE IN YOUR IMPOUNDED CAR!!!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!!!!

Oh well, it is over for another year.

Funny thing is, if he is getting $100 back, he doesn't have to turn it in on April 15th.

I know our government has some technical difficulties, but they don't usually add penalties to money they owe you.

Ahhh, hear that? The sound of modems handshaking? (OK, I know almost everyone has DSL or Cable so just play along.) Electronic Filing is so simple. One can file in his or her underpants if desired. I can't understand why anyone would not take advantage of this, especially since the handwritten returns are more likely to receive an audit.

Guilty, at least of some of it.

I had done my taxes in February. However, I owed money to the government. When I owe money to the government, I don't file until the 15th. Sort of a ritual of mine. On the 15th Turbo Tax decided it was not going to file my forms electronically. I tried to get the latest on-line updates, to no avail. Then I reinstalled the program (after saving my return file elsewhere), but I still could not get the thing to file electronically. I was more than just a little bitter.

Anyway, I let my home at 11:30 PM to drive (carefully and uneventfully) to the post office a few towns away that was open until midnight. Made it with 10 minutes to spare. Wasn't even a line at the Post Office, just a fairly steady stream of traffic.

Had my federal done by the first week of March. Mostly because they owed me money. hehehe

Now, STATE I owed money to, so of course, I filled the check out and mailed it yesterday afternoon.

As a CPA, I filed more than two dozen requests for extension last week for people...

On Monday and Tuesday, I filed fourty.

Note: I didn't file these requests because I wasn't ready... I filed them because the people who's taxes I was doing weren't ready.

I know you said Electronic Filing, but I have visions of frantic people rushing to the post office in their underwear dancing through my head. Sometime my imagination is just TOO vivid.

I am so glad we don't have to fill in our taxes anymore here.
Unless there is something really obscure or you need to claim something back, it is all automatic.

                      Cheers

<-- files the day after she gets her W2

Then it gets to get April 15th and I'm like huh? Oooh, right. That thing I did 3 months ago.

I can certainly understand not filing until the last day if you owe money tho - I wouldn't either.

We used to file in February, until it turned out I wasn't getting all my stuff from the stock people in time (it gets bounced between 3 addresses for NO reason). So now we just file in late Feb, March, and ponder why there's so much traffic on Apr 15.
I don't think the H&R Block people would be happy to see me in my underwear maybe they'd give me a discount?
