  • #$%#@ Bazaar Farmers!

I was in TM, again, trying to farm acrylia from the grimlings. I was surprised to find 11 people in the zone. I /ooc camp check and get back castle (I think there were 2 of them since they were in the same guild). No other responses. Out in front of the Grimling Forest Cavern is a party of 4, I think there for the Runner. I go to the mines, thinking them both to be free. Much to my dismay, both caves appeared to be taken. I /ooc camp check again. No response. There appeared to be 2 duos in each one so I log for awhile. I get back on a hour later and find only 5 other people in zone. The runner party was still at it and the laborer cave was taken. I work the other mine for awhile netting 1 whole brick of acrylia for 2 hours worth of work. I end up going LD and get killed, spend an hour with really awesome guildmates finding and rezzing my corpse after which I go to the bazaar. Much to my dismay, I find one of the people from TM selling small pieces of acrylia, 40+, for 50pp. It's just not fair! Why should a stupid farmer get all the luck? Why isn't he making things?

/sigh - Yes, this was a long and meaningless rant. Thank you for your support.

i used to get upset as well. My philosophy is that they have just as much right to spawns as me though. Doesn't help but true nevertheless. Just don't buy from them and try to encourage people you know not to buy, then they will tire of farming for nothing maybe.

Personally, I was really glad there were acrylia farmers, backwhen I made the stuff.

Luclin is too laggy on my system, and I try to avoid it as much as possible.

They would have been grousing if you were there at a place they wanted to get acrylia from, if the situations were reversed, so it all comes down to the same thing.

Just gotta do other things sometimes.

For the not responding to camp checks thing, they might have public channels off. I turned off /auc, /shout, and /ooc about a year ago. I find my time spent online is much more enjoyable with those gone.

For me a camp check is fighting my way over there, if mobs are up, it's not camped and I feel free to move in, if they're down then it is taken and I go somewhere else.

Much as I hate to admit it, I've been considering farming tradeskill components for selling as well.

My equipment is horribly out of date due to a year's hiatus, and I don't have the cash to upgrade it to something appropriate to my level. And I'd rather farm tradeskill components than go steal hill giants from someone that can benefit from the experience.

There's two sides to every coin... and when looking at the one you're not on, it's always frustrating. :/

The caves are not good for acrylia drops anyway, so you should have just killed the grol baku soldiers and cral ligi soldiers (and warlords). Better drops of acrylia, gems (though, slightly less Windstones in number, I think better per capita), and Essense of Wind. If you are farming for supplies or cash, TM is not bad.

I farm components on my lower level characters. *shrug* I don't gouge though, or not compared to so many others anyway. That's why what I do farm sells out at light speed so I can get back to work!

Now, that said, when I say "Farm" I mean, I hunt things for XP that will also give me trade components to sell in the bazaar. My little froggie paladin spend levels 5 through 15 in east and west commons... WHY? Cat pelts, wolf pelts, bear pelts, spiderling silks, spider silks, zombie skins, bone chips (I farm for quest stuff too while I level hehehe).

I keep what I need for my own tradeskills, and sell the rest. Like, say, leather padding. I have a couple hundred on my blacksmith, why the heck do I need more? Make padding, then sell in bazaar. *shrug* I leveled 3 characters so far through Mera Seru. Low Quality rockhopper hides, and regular rockhopper hides... Skill up tailoring making hopper hide armor, and use the LQ hides to make leather padding. *shrug* Even after all the padding I've sold, I have over 80 hides still, and no silk thread. :P

Anyway, I don't farm just to farm, I make my XP and sell the extra components that I don't need myself. Still, depending on how you look at it, it's still farming for the bazaar.

Having leveled many characters up before the bazaar came along and always being broke, I have a great appreciation for the place. It used to be **** hard to get enough money just to buy your spells, forget about buying equipment. Now a newbie can farm spiderling silks, get experience and make some decent coins all at the same time. I think it makes the game a lot more fun for the average person to play.

The only time I have a problem with farmers is if they are farming greens and hogging good XP spots for lower level characters. Mammoth meat is a good example. If I want to hunt mammoth meat I go to Eastern Wastes instead of Everfrost. The Everfrost mammoths are a prime XP/loot mob for characters in their 20s and used to always be over hunted. I refuse to take that away from them. Of course, if the zone is empty that’s another story. It’s all dependent upon the situation. The newbie froggie zone is now the best place to farm spiderling silks. Spiderlings spawn by the dozens. I hunted there with my level 52 shaman for a few hours one morning and walked away with 400 silks. And during that time there were never more than five low level frogs in the zone. And most of the time I was alone. When there were others around I kept them buffed and made sure there were plenty of other mobs to kill. Heck, even with my puppy killing every spiderling he could sink his fangs into there were still plenty of spiderlings for the young frogs to play with. So as long as someone isn’t kept from getting XP I don’t see a problem with farming.
