  • Lazy trackers - bad, bad, bad!

So I'm working the poacher camp in JP with a buddy the other day - we're both 51 SKs so we're really making some very nice XP for our levels (cash wasn't half bad either - paid for our KEIs atleast).

Unfortunately, we came across two seperate folks who gave us pause to wonder about EQ players.

The first gent was a 59 bard who seemed to think that the entire poacher camp site (all three tents plus the fire) was something that he could call camped. I really have no idea what this guy thought he was doing even working that camp - the mobs all had to have been green to him, there were no loot drops that he could use personally and nothing that was going to sell in the bazaar for enough plat to warrant his time and while the individual poachers can drop up to 4 plat each, 2 plat is the norm - hardly good money even if he did have the entire camp site.

We ended up splitting it up (each of us took two of the four camps) by the shear fact that we were able to hold onto our pulls and keep control of our spawn points (never underestimate a pair of competent SKs) - never found out why he was there, but eventually he left.

The second guy was alot more polite, but still very puzzling. He was a 63 ranger who said he was farming the poachers for pelts to skill up his buddy's (a cleric) tailoring. Now the poachers do drop some pelts on oaccasion - LQ, MQ and HQ of bear, cat and wolf - but they certainly don't drop enough to warrant farming for skilling tailoring - in three hours of hard and fast pulling, we got 36 pelts between us - 2 were HQ cat, none were HQ bear - so 34 leather paddings.

When I asked the ranger why he wasn't farming EK (my buddy averages a stack of HQ cat and silk swatches per SOW potion charge - yes, the other 51 SK) he said he couldn't because of his cleric buddy - not sure what that was supposed to mean though.

I guess the point of my rant is that even at 51, you've still gotta worry about lazy higher level characters comming in and turning your XP camp into a farm.

Isn't that the camp where the half-elf mask drops?

I've heard that JP poachers were an excellent place to get pelts. Weird.

        Agreed.

It's always either Stonebrunt or JP.

EK is for lowbies, andit's overcamped.

I've been getting annoyed at the green farmers in TM. If I were at their level, I'd be hunting in Acrylia Caverns where the drop rates are much higher.

I've heard that JP was good for pelts too and was considering going there to get plant shoots. Good or bad idea for a level 42 shaman?

Jaggedpine poachers are an excellent source for pelts. Nearly every other one dropped a pelt for me.

Yes, that camp is where the half-elf illusion mask drops.

Well Cigar, looking at what you said there are a few things:
One: As said before, the Half-Elf mask for the Bard.
Two: Maybe Cleric was farming EK, so Ranger was doing Jagged.
Three: Yes, when I am there with my 52 Ranger I get a lot of plets.
Four: Faction, if he is a Karana Ranger like me there is a nice weapon you can get with Ally faction to Jagged. Silver Blade of Thunder

So, as you can see, there are several good reasons to camp that camp. But then again, what would 2 SKs know about thinking, especially if one is a Troll!

Also, if he bakes, he can forage plant shoots while he is there (plus the no drop foraged items for various ranger quests).

If people wouldn't charge 100+ plat per hide, then maybe those lazy high level farmers would buy them from you rather than farm them for themselves.

Isn't that the camp where the half-elf mask drops?
And a 59 neutral or good bard with faction songs needs to disguise himself as a 1/2 elf for which reason now?

I've heard that JP poachers were an excellent place to get pelts. Weird
Nah, my buddy's 51 SK can wrack up the cat pelts WAY faster in EK then we got them at the poacher camp - poacher camp is only good if you can't track and are too lazy to kill a few snakes now and then to keep the cats and spiders up.

Jaggedpine poachers are an excellent source for pelts. Nearly every other one dropped a pelt for me.
You've had some darned lucky streaks then - never did better then every 4th on average.

Two: Maybe Cleric was farming EK, so Ranger was doing Jagged.
Nah - cleric was red and standing next to ranger.

Four: Faction, if he is a Karana Ranger like me there is a nice weapon you can get with Ally faction to Jagged
Nope - specifically said he was farming pelts - if he had said faction then we would have been more than happy to let him deal the killing blow to the poachers after we had knocked them under 50% - would have been PL central. [/quote]

The no drop forages are for Druid quests , not ranger ones.

Why would people want that mask?

                            Why not?

As for CS, I've seen a farmer there... 65 cleric... it was funny to watch.

I was quadding at the time, killing easily twice as fast as him, and I wasn't farming, I was there for exp.

Great exp at 51, crap exp at 52 (/curse the guy who said they were still dark blue at 52, cause I coulda gone AA and loved it. truth is 50/50 are now Light blue at 52)... but still great gem drops/hides, so I go there when I can't get a raptor camp.

Hides I've sold for 25pp each, never 100, who does that? Given a few stacks to guild as well, trying to get a guild halfling up in tailoring a bit cause my monk wants bags, hehehe.

                            -----------

I also thought poachers were a way to get panther hides without ruining JP faction, do they only drop cat/bear/wolf?

Note: Some folks who feel their characters wouldn't agree with the killing of animals will farm the poachers for skins so they don't have to hunt the animals.
