Gah. Don't feel bad, my enchanter was nearing level 49, so I was making the usual trip to round up all the new spells. I have no idea why I'd summoned a GM bag. I had more than enough space in all my other backpacks. I don't even remember summoning a GM bag.
As you've undoubtedly already guessed, I logged in next time to realize that 10 spells were missing, including all the expensive (60pp-ish) lvl 49 metal enchantment spells.
/sigh
Great idea about making a camp hotkey tho. I'll set that up on my enchanter.
Did that long time ago, as a newbie Shaman (who doesn't exist anymore in the Realms) - granted, losing snake skins and rusty weapons doesn't count, but when you've never seen more than 10 shiny plat (promptly before going and buying new spells), it hurt. So, I vowed never to use the bags unless I was major overburdened and on my way to go sell the items in the bags (lest I forget and camp or worse, LD and lose it all).
As for the combinable containers, I never carried any as a newb for that reason -- didn't carry any until much later after they changed the combine feature. Hence, I didn't get lucky and get Deluxe Sewing Kits =(
I started playing EQ back when NO RENT items vanished the -instant- your character logged off.. be it camping or going LD. I never used NO RENT bags unless I happened to be with a shaman/Mage and was horribly overburdened and was on my way to a bank.
As it stands I still open and close my collapsable sewing kit at least twice before destroying it to make absolute sure that there's nothing inside it.
And *real* bags wont let me carry around 40+ blocks of Acrylia and still only be a 20/93 unless I blow 35k on Tinkers bags. 6 stacks of Plains Pebbles is about 34.8k cheaper than 6 Tink bags. I'll stay w/ my summoned backpacks.
I am so paranoid about destroying my collapsed or folded items by accident. I think I have checked 5 times in a row to be sure. After losing what were precious mammoth tusks in a spirit bag a few times, I also avoid the no rent bags as if they were tainted.
I think I have done all the DOH's listed so far except for the BD's. And the only reason for that is I have never had a BD in my possession yet

Took me one time to figure out to never use summoned bags. That time was a few weeks after EQ went live. I had just started playing, and a mage farming the grobb guards got me killed because he had the guards down. I crashed while LOADING and by the time I could get back on I had lost it all...my rusty scimitar, almost full netted...and several whole GOLD pieces of crap I was gonna sell. He handed me a bag of the weapons that used to drop off guards, they sold for 10pp+, before they changed guards to FS weapons. I had 80pp in my hands, I couldn't believe it...I ran for grobb to sell and...the server crashed. /cry
It worked out though. The next day there was a guy there who couldn't sell, and couldn't carry all the weapons. I played gopher between him and the vendors inside. He kept most for himself of course ( I was the lowest bidder I think, there were several others trying to get him to give them to them), but I made almost 30pp, which I used to buy 2 mino axes and a banded helm...that was when I was introduced to the term twink, because everyone knows the only way a level 5 has a mino axe (couldn't equip the 2nd yet) and a banded helm is if he is twinked. Two things occured to me after I had logged out. 1st, 30 weapons = 300pp >30pp (oops, sorry, went ld...who are you again?), and the fact that I honestly hadn't thought about cheating the guy...If I had had good parents they would have taught me actively look for ways to cheat anyone I came into contact with. (like the Enron people's parents did)
I'm way too stupid to use no rent bags. It's all I can do to not destroy my regular equipment even though I have the destroy confirmation turned on.
I regularly use a non-stackable item like a ring or something to pick up stacks of garbage I buy off vendors to burrow down into their good inventory -- silks, pelts, etc. Going through backpack after backpack of it, usually late at night, my motions becoming more and more automatic -- I've come extremely close to click yes on the destroy button with nice or even some of my best items.
Like Clint Eastwood said in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly -- "A man has got to know his limitations." I'll never use no rent anything.
Was given a NO RENT bag on a corpse run to Kael once a while back. Looted my body and dropped what I thought was the NO RENT bag on the ground to grab my last backpack on my corpse. Turns out it was one of my Handmade backpacks with a few high end gems (no BDs), the Saprophyte Eye I had just looted the day before and a couple Branches of Planar Oak.
The **** inventory icons look the same for both types of backpacks.
I will never, EVER use NO RENT containers.

The summoned Grandmaster Satchel (the no rent one, not the permanent Carry-all), has the same graphic as a Rallic Pack. I made a very bad mistake involving stacks of pottery components, gems, my mana gear, and my EPIC. Thank goodness the GMs are terrific and replaced what I lost.
User Interface experts will tell you that confirmation boxes are next to useless because people click OK without reading. I can testify that this is true and am ultra paranoid now about what I am deleting or dropping.
