  • Gukta Soulstone quest

So, after my froggie twink Jin Zruu got his initiate earring, he hailed the High Seer and got
High Seer Flogk says 'I thought you might be, in fact, I had hoped so. This task that I have for you will gather the components that I require to create a soulstone for you. The soulstone is one of our means of identification, and is actually infused with your aura during the creation process. The soulstone is unique to you, and will be used throughout your training. Now, enough chatter, the components I requre are a polished waterstone, sparkling dust, and a vial of swampwater. When you have located these items, give them to me, and I will combine them to make the stone, and upon successful creation, I will give you further instructions
So I start hunting and searching, asking in /ooc and in various serverwide channels I find out that the Polished Waterstone is a ground spawn in Upper Guk with a 5-6 hour respawn rate.

    Not there. Bleah.
    OK, move on.

I start asking around for the other two pieces and nobody has found either of them yet. OK, so I wander around, level up some more, get my Jin Initiate sandals and so forth, occasionally asking about the dust and the vial.

Eventually I discover (thanks to someone in serverwide.eqtraders whose name I have forgotten) that, according to a GM, both of the other two items are bugged. They should be ground spawns - one in Innothule, one in SRo. At the moment, there are ground spawns in both zones...but they're at (0,0) and cannot be picked up.

    Great.

Gah, that sucks. VI should not be introducing bugged quests, more so after all this time you would of thought the amount of experience in rolling out things like quests would be trivial for them....

Quite probably - my good memory for trivia (which comes in surprisingly handily for quests and stuff) is only surpassed by my absolutely appaling memory for names.

Thanks for saving me more time searching for non-existant spawns, if it was.

Oh, it gets even better in the Amphibious assault unit of Gukta. Perform any of the quests, there is no improvement of faction with you and the guards, High council, Elders or Lorekeepers. All, save one frog.

The collector, he wants bone chips, he wants fresh fish. Then comes the most aggrivating part... He wants Large, not giant, not regular, but large rat ears. GRRRRRR.

So far, not on location in Norrath, all of the newbie zones, drop large rat ears. Regular rat ears.. not a problem, giant rat ears, even better. Large rats, Large thicket Rats, Large diseased rats, not a single one of the ugly fur bearing critters drop a "large" rat ear.

All of the quests now work on a flag, no more MQ'ng, so you can't wait for the server to reset and then hope to just start over with bone chips again..

At least the trolls had a working quest (turn in fire beetle eyes) to increase their faction with their guards and leaders.

            Hmm...

            You know...
I saw the oddest thing in Innothule yesterday. In between getting squashed (My level 11 warrior frog steps out into the zone, and I swear every last kobold and/or troll in the zone agroes on him. Its uncanny. Must be Cigarskunk's fault. He's found a way to punish frogloks for the takeover of Gukta, but only I'm affected by it.) , I noticed a rat wandering through the swamp. Its the only rat I've seen in the entire time I've spent in that zone, so my guess is that its a fairly rare spawn.
Its possible that the rat might drop the correct ears.
I didn't kill it (it was green, just as I'd expect a normal rat to be), so I don't know if its loot is any different than normal, and you'd probably need a tracker to have a chance of catching it, but its worth a shot - provided you're dual boxing and have a ranger or druid that you can afford to leave in the middle of the zone while you use your other computer to pass the time.

And it's still not fixed, despite being fine on Test.

And now it's 2/3rds doable. The Pouch of Sparkling Dust is there, the Vial of Swampwater...isn't.

I swear that someone at SOE is doing this on purpose to annoy me.

probably being very carefull not to fix this before Hollowshade. Can you imagine the response from the Vah Shir community?

"Hi, we know Hollowshade Moor has been horribly broken for then entire year and a half since its release, but we at SOE feel that this month and a half old newbie quest is *much* more important."

                  'cause that'd go over well.

Except that this newbie quest only requires that a single groundspawn be fixed, while Hollowshade is probably a lot more technical.
In fact, from what I've heard, the groundspawns have been working just fine on Test server since LoY went live.
