  • New armor coloring ability

I'm torn... I dont know whether to cheer because I can now change my buttugly boots of flowing slime to match the rest of my armor, or if Im incredibly pissed off that now every newbie in bronze, banded or patchwork can now run around looking like they are wearing ToV armor.

Seems like this patch will take all the fun out of EQ fashions and trying to collect that full suit of whatever, just cause it LOOKED good. Now people will tend to wear armor based on pure stats. I'm sure the people who play mostly to be uber are thrilled, now they can raid even more and fix their look with the touch of a button rather than expending any time or creativity on it. :?

    Armour dying

My heart bleeds for anyone who's ever worn a butt ugly emerald dragon bp... That's the FIRST thing I am going to do... change the colour of that hideous thing...
Well.. ok.. husbandguy just corrected me.. the first thing we're going to do is try to snag Drusel for our monk buddy (aka Scalybutt, aka Monky-boy)... the second thing I am going to do is get rid of my hideous BP ^^

I'd be happy if I could change the texture of my Lodizal boots. I mean, they come from a level 60ish mob, you'd think it'd look like I was wearing boots, not slipper socks...

Part of me wants to change my armor to red so I could finally wear the fierce heraldic I can make but cannot equip, godless heather that I am.

The bigger part of me is proud of my mismatched armor, ever single piece of which was was achieved with the aid of friends.

          I still cannot decide.

Bah Zac that is one of the best lookin robes in the game! Those boots do NOT look good with dark kelly green druid armor however. :P I do have to agree on the Dreaded Green Tunic of Ultimate Fugliness but it was a tradeoff... you didnt HAVE to wear it right?

So you guys have never had fun in running around collecting a full suit of gnomeskin armor to dress up your twink or going to the trouble of making pretty blue fine plate? Im just saying there was some fun in that which we've lost now. Of course we *can* still do it, but what fun is the effort if anyone can look the same in a click?

I guess I just see the game boiling down to exp grinding and raiding more and more. *yawn* *shrug*

Somehow I don't think it'll be all that easy to get. Remember, you have to have particular reagents to change your armour. The real question is, how difficult is it to get (assuming its NOT vendor sold in very newb city)

Reread the info on the new "tinting" system. Its not going to be QUITE as easy as some people think. Particularly with armor like bronze, where the base color is kind of dark.

Unless you want a full set of BLACK armor, you're going to be hard pressed to get some of the darker pieces to match.

The reason for this is, while you can tint the SLOT, the base color of the armor is still there. So, that Emerald Dragonscale, cannot be made silver, for example. Maybe dark gray, or black, or navy blue, but nothing that won't cover the green up.

So, for those of you in gnomeskin, tint away, it'll still be black.

The only problem i have with it is:
Why do i have to tint the slot?
That means i nee more dye every single time i want a hange of color, i can't fill one of my 8 new (YAY!) bank bags with 3 new robes, 3 new tunics and 2 new pairs of pants all in different colors.

I'd kill to be able to make them once and switch out, instead of havng to re-dye the slot every time i want a change.

The thing i really wonder about -- will it change the color of my Wu's temporary belly tattoo?

I agree. I'd much rather be able to dye the actual equipment, instead of the slot. Think of the extra money smiths and tailors could make selling armor in custom colored armor.

My other biggest gripe is the fact that the dye is only available in one of the new zones, and you have to rely on a Druid or Wizard (or go through the Warrens) to get there. Why no PoP book or other way to get there without the hassle?

I switched from my Blackened Crystalline Robe to my old Crystalline Robe (hated that olive greenish color - Robe looked better with the pre-Luclin colors) then got some dye. The robe is now black with dark navy highlights (and I dyed my headpiece dark navy to match. Now I need some more dye to use on my Enchanted Elven Chain Boots!).

And we can't dye anything white? That stinks. I wanted to put my Wood Elf Druid in white from head to toe, and dye my Monk's Robe of Living Fungus white!

The next expansion, I want to be able to dye weapons and shields!

I guess I'm in the minority. I could give a rat's ass what any of it looks like. If it has better INT/Mana that what I have already, I'll wear it. Even if it's pink and purple. I won't spend a single copper just to change the looks of something. That's a total waste in my opinion.

Well, I'd take stats over looks any day (My Human Necro, that I've long since wiped, wore Flayed Skin Armor, and it certainly wasn't for the looks - back then, someone once told me that I looked like a gay Monk, because the armor is god-awful dark purple\maroonish colored, and holding a Staff of Withering and a Harvester made it look like I had Dual Wield!!!!), but the Blackened Crystalline Robe has the same Int bonus as the Crystalline Robe and the Cha bonus came in handy for saving plat. The slight AC difference doesn't matter, because I don't fight up close. (My soloing tactic is "send in buffed up pet, cast spells, and either Gate or run like heck if the pet gets wiped out")

I think the price of dye will settle down after a month or two. Maybe sooner. (Look at how much the bones for the Fisherman Companion quest sold for when PoP was first out, and look how much they go for now, for example) Unless I take a trip to collect the ingredients myself, or level my Druid up enough to make mucho plat with him, I'll wait a bit before dyeing anything else. (Raising Baking skill is expensive, and its hard to sell Halas 10lb Meat Pies when there are already 9 or 10 traders selling them in the Bazaar and they all have over 10 times more than I do, so I can't afford more dye!)

I'm not happy with the decision to allow color changes. It makes little sense to me, other than to please players who don't like the color of their equipment. With all the changes and improvements the game could use, this seems to me to be way down on the priority list.

"Yay, I can make my robe red now. Too bad I still can't solo effectively anywhere....."

Gunthak is super easy to get to

If you are over level 25 and have PoP getting to gunthak is literally a walk in the park. Take the evil side PoK book to Paineel it drops you right outside the entrance to paineel (no guards or anything to worry about) zone in through the tunnel (if you face the south wall from the PoK book it is just a few steps to your left) Hug the left wall (dont fall in The Hole) and run through the paineel newbie zone to the entrance to The Warrens. Run through the Warrens to Stonebrunt then run to the dock. I did it last night four times making armor dye runs for my friends.

Making armor dye is absolutely simple if you have access to a potter with a skill of 70ish and a a brewer/or alchemist with a skill in the same range. Armor Dye with no combine failures cost about 26pp each to make. It takes 7 dyes to change a full suite of visible armor, the hardest part if finding a kiln that is available.

At any rate the only prohibitive part of the process is the cost. It is nearly 200pp if you do it yourself. There were already a small army of traders on Rodcet Nife trying to get 200pp per Vial of Prismatic Dye in the bazaar last night

When the dyes went live I could barely move in the bazaar! everybody and their newbie brother was there to change their armor colors. Someone got filthy rich last night!
