  • TROLLS UNITE IN PROTEST!

Sony is changing the Troll starting city to Neriak Foreign Quarter, and the Frogloks are taking over Grobb as their starting city. No, I'm not kidding.

This used to be the Spiritstone of Innothule:
    http://lucy.fnord.net/item.html?id=9739

Make a new Troll character. Check the starting city. That's right, Neriak.

It's blatantly apparent that they are doing this purely as a money-saving measure so they can increase their profit margin on Legacy of Ykesha sales. It would apparently cost them too much to create and debug a new Froglok starting city based off Innothule, so they are repurposing two existing zones.

I've played a Troll for over three years now. I was one of the first Troll cultural smiths. Grobb is my character's home. Getting evicted purely so Sony can squeeze a few more dollars out of this expansion is unnecessary and insulting.

Join me in giving Sony the finger, Troll-style.

Yes, because clearly you know the EXACT reason that Sony did this.

BECAUSE IT MUST BE REALLY EASY TO MAKE MASSIVE CHANGES TO STARTING CITIES AND BIND POINTS!

It couldnt be "Dynamic content", a storyline, or any other reason then pure greed.

I have heard of many trolls who are amused by the change, even if In character they dont like it.

Dynamic content means something sometimes may happen to a race you like.

Stop Bashing SoE, and calling them cheap for changing something you dont like!

      I agree but yet i don't

I do agree this is kind of a slap in the face for Trolls but who knows maybe Verant will give trolls some bonuses of having a new starting city(i doubt it but its possible but i think Verant should give Trolls free access to all of Neriak now instead of not being liked real well in some places(yea well im probably dreaming there too) but oh well its a change and maybe something good will come out of it

As a builder on a MUD, I can tell you that it is more difficult to convert a zone than to start from scratch. It may be different in EQ but I doubt it.

Actually, I think it's the Dark Elves that should be protesting.

Honestly, this is the kind of stuff I'd love to see in the game more often. This is supposedly an everchanging world, yet we rarely see any changes to existing content.

Pretty much the storyline has had paladins KoS in Freeport for YEARS! Yeah, it does suck that you can now get any class spells (save paladins) in Neriak (shaman and beastlord traders must have moved too, no?). Something does need to be changed...troll diapers. It is a storyline and one that is somewhat amusing and new. I enjoy and encourage more of this line of change. Have the paladins expel the Freeport Militia or vice versa. Have the Erudites burn the boat from Qeynos and attack non-Erudite people that come in (we never really trusted you guys anyway). Have Paineel raid Erudin. Make the old new again. Sometimes, that makes a world of difference.

In the name of the Neriak National Socalist Party (NNSP) I'm protesting to the huge influx of aliens to our grand city.
The unwashed masses arriving to our home are taking up much valued living space, degrading our standards and corrupting our youth!
This must stop right here, this far no further!
The trolls should seek haven by their brothers the ogres where they belong to....

(Yes this is a joke, white propaganda for dark elfs.)

Couldn't they have moved the trolls into a cave or island in the middle of nowhere?... I haven't read the storyline (forgive my ignorance) but dark-elves and trolls living in the same city is a bit strange to me. Poor trolls getting no respect I tell ya!

There have always been trolls, ogres, dwarves, humans, erudites and a pet halfling (yes a pet leatherfoot deputy that swam around in the moat) in neriak

At least the trolls are setting up in the foreign quarter but they brought a nasty froglok slave with them

Yes, all you've gotta do is swap out a few characters models and change the dialoge and that's all she wrote - the new mobs in the swamp have the same pathing as the old ones and the new guards have the same pathing as the old ones - they didn't even change the locations of the bulk of the NPCs.

So yes, the thought that they might be cutting corners and pretending it's dynamic conent crossed my mind once I'd poked around a bit too.

I have a feeling that the new zones to be revealed with the LOY expansion may indeed include some trolls in caves or an island somewhere. Read the storyline so far of the Broken Skull clan and then the promised new zones aimed at levels 35 to 60 and its not too much of a stretch to see a Gukta nemesis in the near future. And no I will not respect them

This is cool new content. I applaud the change and would frankly like more. I'd like other areas to change in similar ways. It also DOES make sense since dark elves and trolls WERE living in the same area, if you ever went to the foreign quarter. Some troll guards and vendors such as Bronk are NOT new but have always been there. You can tell which vendors were old because they con apprehensive to your troll, who now has some more reasons to raise dark bargainers.

Have you actually MADE a new little troll? I did and the nek woods newb area is pretty nice for it. There are also some new quests with the trolls and perhaps will be more (newb armor???) If you remember, SEVERAL of the nek woods drops were not actually used in the dark elf newb armor.

This likely had far more planning than "kick trolls out to save money and put frogs in." As another poster said, this is also FAR more difficult than simply adding the frogs own newbie zone would have been. They totally overhauled innothule, removed all trolls and relocated many to neriak, stuck all frogs in places they kind of fit in grobb, changed grobb a bit cosmetically, put the trolls they were sticking in neriak in new spiffy velious armor (Guildmistress kaligari looks much spiffier than when she was just a naked troll)

I'd like simiilar "war" changes to happen in places like freeport. I think its ridiculous that in four years the militia and paladins have been locked in this continual struggle which never changes. MMORPGS should just have ONE HECK of a lot more change in them over the years since they know now that players are going to be hanging around for that long.

They even stuck a large race banker in foreign quarter now, its Spinkit. The new banker troll is in the shop that Bronk, a female troll, is in. Go around behind bronk a ways and you pass a vendor and then finally
                            Spinkit.

My lil newb shaman exploring troll is having fun with this, as is my 40 sk troll who left grobb eons ago because it kind of bit it. She settled in east freeport, got dismal rage faction high enough to train, did that area and nek woods a lot, moved to the overthere at level 14 (taking the boat back to nro/east freeport to train back then) and never looked back. Trolls have been trying to retransplant themselves in better areas like Neriak for quite some time, but having no shaman trainer they could use in the area made it harder for some (shaman is one of the key dismal rage trainers missing, since dismal rage is all humans pretty much)

I mean, since we've all coded MMO games, we'd know this right? You people pointing fingers and calling folks names have no clue how much work went into the changes, so why act like you do. I wouldn't call the developers lazy or talk about how easy it is unless I had done something similar myself.

Personally, I was excited by this content change, and I hope this means the trolls get a really nifty new newbie zone for themselves, or alternatively a new troll city that doesn't have a newbie zone but is a new troll outpost -- something like FV.
