I'll bet a ton it was purely a $$$ decision, not "dynamic content". Re-using grobb with a minimum of graphics-only overlays saved them having to develop a new zone, provide it for download, AND supply servers for it. I'm sure it saved them big bucks. They just did a crappy job of it, as usual. I've never said they were "evil", just lazy and sloppy, and more than a bit inconsiderate. They can justify about anything by ignoring the specifics and pointing to whatever passes for the "vision" there nowdays- probably the bottom line.

Please, educate us more on the economics involved in running a large scale MMORPG. And about all the work involved in designing new content. I am curious as to the details involved which you seem to have a keen grasp on!

After all, If you are SO SURE, and WILLING TO BET TONS, then clearly you must have the inside track!

I mean, it's not like you would just randomly make half-arsed assumptions, and post them as fact or anything.

I know RdT, I have been reading his post on various message boards and met him in game as well.
He invented the "/con pulling" and the "Axe kiting" technics, so he usually knows what he is talking about.

You aren't alone Lilosh. I haven't posted until now because his responses are getting on my nerves too badly to be polite about them.

I'm going to make simple smallworded points.

1) Retexturing and repathing a zone is the hard part. There is no difference in the downloads between a brand new zone and recreated zone. If they repathed it, the work on their end was roughly the same, the only difference being they didn't require designers to draw up a new city layout, they just had to fix the problems that existed for the new race in and old city (height of steps and similiar).

2) They are hosting new zones, so servers aren't an issue.

3) I'm sorry you are upset. Despite what they say, they have a very REAL history of fixing things quickly when it it a simple reproducable fix. They apparently attempted to fix it, and just put the wrong forge in place. A couple days isn't going to kill you. Settle down.

After reading the rant, several questions come to my mind.

1. Could there be other reasons for changing Grobb instead of just saving money and greed?
2. Could they have thought that by having the Frogloks invade and take it over, it would create interesting dynamic content?
3. Could there have been programming issues that would have made it not feasible to add another new city zone?
4. Could they have wanted the Froglok City to be close to Guk without suddenly popping in a new city to the zone?
*This alone would have generated rants at the incredible stupidity of Sony for having a Newbie Zone with two opposing factions and questions as to why WE have to share our zone with THEM. Other comments might have been made like "Oh nice going Sony, As if we wouldn't have noticed a Froglok city in the zone before!"
5. Could they have wanted the New Froglok city to be accessible to players without the LoY expansion?
*Sorry Trollock, you can't join the guild on the raid against your mortal enemies since you can't afford the new expansion. **** Sony for forcing everyone to buy new things.
6. Could they be planning on a new Troll city elsewhere?
7. Could they felt the 3 city zones of the Dark Elves were under-utilized? (Unused resources in a business are gotten rid of and as for adding new content to Grobb to make it more used, they just did that)
8. If it is a money issue, could it be that Sony is not operating a charity but a money making business and looked to cut costs on the project so that future projects would not get the axe? (Those greedy bastages, trying to make money.)
9. If it was a programming/time issue, would it be better for Sony to delay the expansion for a year to develop the new city zone and purchase new servers to house these zones?
10. Could Sony have a long range plan for adding things to EQ and what makes no sense to you know makes perfect sense in the bigger picture?

Basically, I find these rants about how evil Sony is to be silly and ludicrous. If they really were all that evil, they would have stopped adding new content or fixing any bugs along time ago. They would just milk the cow for all it was worth and toss it aside when it stopped making money. People would still be buying it and playing it.

I am a refugee from the Civilization line of games. IMO, Civ3 is a terrible game not worthy of the line. It represents several steps backwards from its predecessors. There were several boards that post suggestions and improvements but were totally ignored in final development. Patches were slow to come and changes even slower if at all. In contrast, I find the speed at which Sony responds to most of the problems refreshing. They seem to take the suggestions of the players to heart and have an honest interest in maintaining a relationship with all of its EQ players, new and old. They are not perfect (And I am not a stockholder or employee) but I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Basically, I like the game and will continue playing it!

So the Troll Hero returns and takes back Grobb... end of story.

Lilosh, RdT has been venting because he has been evicted from his home with a full bank of troll smithing stuff he can't do anything with, when more people jump on the bandwagoon then it will be sony bashing and the thread will be locked.

Also there are rules about flames which all of us should observe.

I certianly agree that there are rules that we should all follow.

And as I said, if I stepped over then line , then I will respect your wishes and stop. I am not going to claim that I was nice, friendly, or any other synonym.

The RP response I got from a friend was something along the lines of "well, they were chased out! It's going to take time for them to set up a new forge!" It's not been forgotten (or if it was forgotten, it's been acknowledged that it needs to go in), and it's due to be put back ... somewhere.

(They also need to add stationary tradeskill containers to Gukta once the frogs are more settled in.)

Meanwhile, I also whimpered about the ground spawn in Grobb/Gukta for the enchanter quest (tashanian?), and that *should* be back next patch.

I know folks are frustrated and upset with the change, and it's a very massive world-altering event. However, the responses I've received from various folks indicate that they *are* listening to us, and trying to address various bugs and issues that came about due to this invasion.

Meanwhile, I'm going to go quietly twitch in a corner now about all the things that already need changing in the database, before we can even think of prepping to launch it ...
