  • Pray, witness this dead horse...

...and I shall now commence beating upon it.

For the love of Prexus, while we're praying for dev time to rework the trivial and skill caps system, can we get rid of the RNG for skillups and replace it with an evolution-style scale? (For anyone who's not familiar, I refer to the Elder Scrolls games as an example.)

Going 0-for-150 on research combines, only to go 3-for-153... makes me want to rip my scalp off and use *it* for the next parchment.

Heck, I'll even code it! Just let me at it! ::Begins sharpening his admittedly extremely rusty coding knives::

      1. You are asking for a complete overhaul of the skilling up system. That won't happen.

      2. You are asking them to let you go play with their code. That won't happen either.

Good and bad streaks happen. Accept both and keep going.

Now, now.. when I say "I'll code it", I'm trying to wheedle my way into a programmer's position at SOE. ;D

Tip: After you click the combine button and it lights back up, wait 5-10 sec before clicking again. This will result in more skill ups per 100 attempts than if you simply click the combine as fast as you can.

Example: I was doing fletch on my ranger(wood elf) and while making mithril arrows i did 100 combines as fast as i could and skilled from 218 to 223. I did another 100 fast and went from 223 to 227. I then did 100 slowly and went from 227 to 242. Thats an average gain of 4.5 going fast, and a gain of 15 going slow.
I have raised tradeskills on various toons to 300 14 times, and to 200 another 17 or so times. I have tested this many times at various trivial levels and on various classes/races and it always returns more skill ups per 100 attempts when going slow.
I dont believe I have ever gone thru 100 attempts without at least 1 skill up, and 3+ is the norm for me even as I near 300.

          Have fun.

I think that's just having good or bad luck with the RNG. Most people won't see the long 100+ combines per skill up because the odds of it are small.
I've had a few runs of 100+ combines without a single skill up, even hit the 300+ mark once in my tradeskilling carreer (30+ runs to 300 skill), but I've also seen bunches of skill ups in a row to make up for it.

I always like to do my combines as fast as possible, to me more combines equals more chance at skill ups. If you wait 5-10 extra seconds in between combines you only get 5-9 combines per minute, normal way you can get almost 30.

First off, try it before you scoff, it really does work.

Second, Im usually more concerned with cost than time, especially at the higher trivials where a single combine can cost 1kpp+, so for me, the more skill ups per 100 tries the better.

                Sorry, that is superstition.

There as absolutely nothing in the code, or the way the random number generator works that supports that. There is no difference between clicking every second and clicking every hour, other than stress levels.

Doing it at a more leisurely pace is easier on your hands, and probably your stress level. The lesser stress level makes it a more pleasant experience. This I support.

That said. People have their superstitions, and more power to them. I sit in the 4/11 spot when I play Pai Gow I know it makes no difference, but I feel better there.
