Oddly, they all still seem to be tagged as used in tradeskills.

That's an unconfirmed rumor, just like the one that says SoE will be shutting down EQ to support other interests.

Just to jump in on this before it gets too hairy.

This was one of the best announced and most widely discussed changes in the tradeskilling world in a LONG time. There was a ton of info about it, including the patch message for about two months before the change.

After this change was made, we had the same discussion that Utilidiin brought up, spread across a few threads. The general consensus was that if people wouldn't take the time to read even the patch messages, let alone the dozens of sites and forums that carried the announcement, then it's their own fault if they get caught. If they were away from the game for an extended period and missed the change, again, there's not much that can be done -- you can't seriously expect the game to stand still without any changes for years until one single player who voluntarily quit decides to return.

As to the expansion, that's been confirmed by the devs multiple times -- EQ is shifting to a one-expansion-per-year cycle, with expansions being released around November of each year. One of the benefits this change bring is that it allows a lot more time for the developers and programmers to work on player requests to change, fix, or enhance existing content (think bug fixes or Fan Faire requests), or to add new content (think Fabled Planes of Power, which wouldn't have been possible without the longer expansion cycle). It also allows for a longer development and testing period for new expansions, which hopefully will reduce the number of bugs and blatant imbalances that we've occasionally seen with past expansions.

Yes, I scan the patch messages, and so knew this, consequently, back when it was announced. I was being facetious. http://www.dictionary.com/ if you need it. I don't usually read the patch messages exhaustively, so I may or may not have read that Drake Scales were being converted from a useful item that could fetch a price in the bazaar to a useless bit of vendor trash. I figure the most important information is usually at the front end of the messages. Admittedly, sometimes when I log in I am late for a raid because I foolishly put RL ahead of my EQ time. So, occasionally, if I do not go back and read the messages I miss them. Call me a slacker, but hey- your opinion, and welcome to it.

They still say used in tradeskills on them, which seems to be adding insult to injury.

I suppose I reacted badly, but I was reacting badly to what seemed like a gratuitous put down. Personally, if I see someone whining, as I was, about something that was changed in game, I hold my tongue, because I am not so completely in love with my own wit that I feel the need to say every clever thing I think.

Not all are so inclined. So it goes. I didn't take time off from the game, either. I have played most weeks since May 3 2000.
