• Grrrr hard drive...

I swear the evil RNG is not letting me get that one last skillup in tailoring! I'm using my second PC to post this.

I was about to get going on my main to farm some more shissar scales but I was having a hard time logging from trader to main and getting out of bazaar. Zoning time was well over 10 minutes and I kept getting booted to character screen. I figured a corrupted file so I /exit the game and started the pather.

The patcher took about 5 minutes to check the files... not a good sign as it usually gets done in under 10 seconds. Then it became stuck in downloading loop redownloading the one same file over and over.

I went to check EQ directory to rmanually remove the "stuck" file only to find EQ directory is missing a lot of files. Every files and folders starting with E to Z were not in the directory. Including the patcher, which oddly the short cut still works.

I did a chkdsk with /r and I was instructed to reboot.

That was almost an hour ago now. The scan is only 1/3 way in the first step, the past hour was wasted in non stop scrolling of "File record sugment xxxx is unreadable." with a few "Deleting corrupt attribute record (128, "") from file record segment xxxx" in the mix. I figure 2 more hours before stage 1 gets done.

Must find a crying towel... and a well insulated room for me to scream out.

It especially blows that the warranty on this 200GB hard drive has expired some months ago. Unless WD changed something recently, it was 1 year and some month from date of mfg. So if it's faulty hard drive and not a horrible and freaky case of mass corrupted files, I'm screwed.

Once the scan gets done, I'll salvage what I can, then do a reformat and use WD diagnostic to see if the ailing hard drive is still useable and if so, what is left.

If its any help

Go get a Seagate drive, you'll be happier and they're faster than the WD's.
I went through 5 WD HD's in several months and finally decided they have 'issues' that I didn't want to pay for any more.

One OS to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

I also had a faulty WD hard drive several years ago. I did get a replacement since it was under warrenty.... Think I might still be using it... can't remember... They definetly have issues though.

I've had many WD drives in the past and this would be the second time I've had a bad WD drive. The first one being a 220MB that died from about 10 or so years ago.

The main hard drive where Windows and most program resides are Seagate and still works fine.

THe data recovery tool just got done checking my hard drive and thankfully most of the files I didn't backup recently are salvageable.

Oh and ding 300 Tailoring so :P RNG

Got done salvaging the files and tried reformat then tried WD diagnostic tool. Horribly slow reformat at 1% per hour >_< and the tool wasn't playing nice. It just gave up and gave the drive a failed rating without actually doing tests. Going to need a new hard drive

I did manage to play EQ on my backup PC but with SOE's default UI, different keyboard, no macros or settings and a tiny monitor that maxes at 1024x758 it's like being forced to play Cheetahmen2 on NES for 3 hours after you're used to playing your favorite game on PS3/360/Wii >_< bleh
