  • Woolly Rhino Horns and You

Maybe people will get it if I post it here

People are hunting for it incorrectly.

You can't just look for Woolly Rhino's. I have said this before. They share a spawn table with other animals.

If all you do is hunt for Woolly Rhino's... you will just make them extinct.

You really do need to do a "if it moves, and is an animal kill it."

    Really.

I am not ready to give a list of what animals it shares spawn with, but just saying this should give the idea that hunting orcs and giants won't help. (And I am not saying that is what people are doing, I am just helping narrow the focus)

I will also hint that they are in the "open" areas... so don't go for the things that are know for a static spawn (I.E. not the Ulthork/Walrus area... whichever it is... I forget and am at home...)

When you kill one of the things on their table (them included) a new spawn will happen in 10 seconds... yes... 10 seconds. Now they spawn randomly within a rather large area, which makes it a bit unpredictable, but there it is.

I forget the exact other numbers, but I think there are 40-50 spawns for them.

they are a 20% chance to spawn on the table they share.

I believe there is about a 70% chance to drop a horn when they do spawn (I forget this number off the top of my head, but this seems to be what I remember)

So don't JUST kill Rhino's. Kill every animal type mob you see.

Having done the Ring quests several times I have a favorite spot for animal farming

Unfortunately, now that I think of it, I can't remember *exact* locations
All I can say is autorun pretty much straight out from the iceclad zone..And I think thats the area..
The 10 seconds thing I can definately agree with ..and the spot I am in you will know your in because you will see the things spawning .. instead of them wandering to/in front of you..
Makes farming the Kodiaks alot easier for sure ^_^

GL to all of you farming the things, hope you can find the spot.. Might go there and get a /loc next time I can get on..

I farmed these roughly between the centre of fort, sleepers and icelad zone, not sure which mob seems to spawn them but I will go and do a check with druid.

They seem to spawn more often in that area, just like mammoths

I gave up making Expert's, people ask for it all the time, I tell them "get the horns and I'll do the combines almost free". However, thanks for the clues! Have a wonderful vacation!

I've frequently made this statement over the last decade (and a half, almost .... wow... I play too many RPGs I think) ...

Some say: Do as you will, as harm's none.
Others reply: Some say onto you "do as you will as harm none" but the whole of the law is "do as you will."

Some say onto you "kill them all and /insert funny bit here/"
I say onto you the whole of the law is "kill them all, then loot the corpses"
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

Hope your memory is just a bit off today then, otherwise there is a bug in the works. Over several weeks killing Wooly Rhinos, my own count showed horns dropping one in twenty. A Bard who brought me Wooly Rhino Horns said she had counted the things dropping one in fifteen or so.

Certainly nowhere near the better than three in five you were remembering.

And I readily admit that could very well be true My memory is not the best and it was just part of a query that returned 100000 rows... I could be remembering one of the others

But one of the other more common things I hear is "There are no Woolly Rhino's" and well that is because people made them extinct and are not hunting anything else.

Oh my gosh, I actually have thought that at one time after I did a marathon bunch of combines of leather padding and my cat knocked over my beer onto my keyboard!

I also was coming down with a bad cold one winter and was semi-doped up on some medicine. I found myself thinking "****, I need to get my Disease resist up." The sad part was that I was being totally serious with myself for a good minute or two.
