Mean robe wearing big people

I hate being in the bazaar anyhow, but lately as soon as I set up with one of my short characters (like my main halfling), someone wearing a robe will come over and engulf me so that no part of me shows from underneath the robe. Very very rude. And it isn't like the people doing it are anyone that I know at all. Just someone with hobbit and gnome envy I guess, and heck ya I kick them in the shins if I catch them at it. I think I am gonna get one of those tinkered embiggening devices - I like being a fearsome megahobbit at times anyhow.

My trader mule is a gnome (Why? I figured it'd be couteous to other people to take up less room) I always pack myself right on the edge of the stalls and sit down so that if someone wants to set up behind me I'll be meerly a bump to step over.

However, so often I come back to the computer in the morning to find some barbarian, troll, or Ogre's legs right in front of me, somehow managing to get into trader mode while slightly off the edge of the stall.

Is there a point to doing this? Most people seem to do their purchasing through the /bazaar window which leads them right to the player no matter if they're taking up the entire corner or if they're sandwiched between 5 other people.. it just takes a moment to poke and prod with the cursorto select the right person while getting 1 frame per second.

How many people wander around and browse all the 100s of traders with the vain notion of just coming across something good?

I get enough "is browsing your wares" without purchases that I have to believe some people just wander and click traders.

I know I hate people packed in those dense bunchs. A pain to try and get the right person targetted. Sure, if they've got a significantly lower price, I'll buy from um - but if there is a similar price elsewhere, and as I'm clicking the name for location its pointing me toward the banks, I'll generally go for the more expensive one just to save the hastle.

There are also ... hrm, what would be the term? cascade buyers? ... which I was reciently - vendor with tons of nicely price BDs also had a 12str 8wis 1hander ... perfect upgrade for my str and wis suits So I bought it only because I happened to see it on the vendor, not from a search.

My beef is with the folks that have the ogre traders (most of the trolls seem to park themselves in the back on my server) - especially this one female ogre who's always in the same spot (sitting too in order to take up the most space) - god forbid you park your character near that spot and that person logs in and you get absorbed into her - I'm sure that tub of lard could fit four traders in her butt alone. :shock:

I've seen that many times, too. The sad thing is that a lot of these huge Orges seem ot be the #1 choice for bazaar/trader mules. :roll:

I set up shop a night, and a lot of times when I get back on, there is someone standing on me. Now, where I stand, yes, I'm in the front, but being the Kane Bayle sever, there are on average 150-200 traders (188 now). PLENTY of room around me, and no rish of it being overbooked soon. A very busy day you might see 250 traders.

The back end is empty and usualy everyone is cramped near the Nexus side bank...

I'm thinking, though, I have a lot of lag with only 150-200 people. I'm starting to be glad I left Rodcet and Tholuxe * I probably wouldn't last an hour in there without going LD!)...

Buying Bias

I've gotten so sick of the whole huge ogre thing that I won't buy from any ogres. I'll either pay more or not buy at all. I know it may be petty, but I'm taking a personal stand on the space hogging.

I had my trader setup in the same spot for quite a while, but eventually other traders setup in about the same spot blocking me. Solution: I move toward the arena where there is less competition for space.

I doubt there are many traders who would bother following someone just to spite them by sitting on top of them. More often, I think people see a spot that is empty at the moment, and setup there.

I hate Ogres, hehe.

I am kinda guilty of being a bit rude, not a lot rude, but depends on how you look at it.

I like to go to the same spot to trade everytime. This is a fairly crowded spot, but seems to be easy to find, and I get a lot of 'so and so is browsing your wares', where in remote areas, the only browsers are buyers. I think the more people that see my wares the more likely I am to sell the low priced brewed/baked stuff from impulse shoppers.

So back on topic, even though I am fairly non descript as an Erudite, sometimes people are all over the place in "My" spot... and I tend to crowd in, try not to get directly in front of people... but wiggle until I can set up trader.

9 times out of 10, I don't get in anyones way... but that 10th time I can't help but be a little rude out of habit

I have had the same thing but not just ogres all races when the bazaar first opened my wife and i set up by the stable so our afk was preset to afk come bye and see me am across from the stable. well that lasted about 2 weeks and then 15 other peps came in and pushed us out so each night i seem to end up one stall further in. I do not think it has hurt sales other than the fact there is a ton less just browsing it is mostly just buyers comming by.

Think I found a good solution to not getting sat on as well as making yourself easier to find.

I play a troll and basically it's not practical for me to have most of the stuff I'm selling on a mule, so I just use my main.

However...

Not being like these folks who have put my mule out of business on so many occasions, I sought a solution which would still let me function in the popular areas but wouldn't cause someone to rant about me.

The solution was to simply put my back to the isle and FD - it makes me easy to see, I don't mess up other traders and it also allows me to squeeze into areas where I really shouldn't have been able to set up shop.

Sadly, the only short comming of this idea is that it requires a 16 necro, 17 monk or 30 SK toon.

The area I tend to set up in -- basically the opposite side of the trader area directly facing the main group of NPC merchants in the Bazaar --doesn't really get a lot of traffic. The people that go there don't do it on whim--that's for the areas near the bank, so the folks that set up for casual browsers aren't going to be getting much casual browsing.

I also happen to be bound on my trader spot. That tends to *cough* push folks a bit whether I want to or not, as I tend to either die at least once a day or Gate frequently from frequent merchant mining sessions. (Yeah, I'm REALLY not going to take advantage of an extremely convenient way to go vendor at a moment's notice...)

That being said, very few tend to stay in my bind point for longer than a day. Your sales aren't going to go any faster in a less frequented area if I died while AFK and pop right on top of you. The folks staying in the same stall as me tend to be courteous however, so I try to remember to show them the same courtesy, like F9 before trading to make sure I'm not in their way either. It's not like people have a problem figuring out which player is me anyway, considering I'm decked out in Blessed Artkeeper. :P

Nope, I do it all the time. Target the person a want to uby from and then..."oops, opened the wrong trader" My personal opinion is that most of those browsing without buying are trying to buy from the other guy who is overlapping your target area.

As to how people get covered, this is a common scenario playing a different character, had camped trader, in a stall, exactly where I usually sell. Opps, went a little long playing, in a hurry to get to _____, in RL. camp my char, log my trader, click trader hotkey, then begin trader. LEAVE.

Luckily, since my trader is a woodelf, I never completely cover the guy who set up in my usual spot while I was camped, but if I had an ogre, or troll trader, I probably would. I don't think it is usually intentional, since the few times I have been there while something like that was happening, I hailed the fatty, and pointed out that he was blocking me, and he moved (different guys each time).

My personal pet peeve is the people who insist on setting up shop RIGHT by the bank. Even with DSL, I still get lag delays trying to buy from these people, and have a hard time targetting the right one.

Usually, if I see two items similarly prices, I check the location of each. If I turn toward the bank on one, and away on the other, I buy the one away from the bank.

ok, this is what happens when short tempered people think a price is the same as on a website:

here i am, with a character recovering from a corpse loss, with 150pp on me. i spend it all, and am packing up, when this troll is in front of me blocking off the zone. this troll has been shouting for the past hour at least "someone buy my seb scale MANTLE for 1k!" 1k? lol yeah, right. so i politely tell him hes blocking the zone, and he says buy my mantle or i wont move. i say i dont have the money for it and hes overcharging anyway, and he moves, then, when i round the corner, he and an ogre box me in to the corner with their big fat lard encrusted bodies and DEMAND i pay the 1k or i wont be allowed to MOVE at ALL! i spend at LEASt half an hour trying to duck, jump, wiggle, and squeeze out from between them, when i remember the obvious, shadowstep! thank god im an SK! so i shadowstep out, click my CoS, and watch them look around to try and trap me again, when they move i quickly squeeze through, click off invis, throw a "neener neener neener!" at them, and zone out.

I would /report and /petition them immediately. Especially if they actually said "we'll move if you buy the mantle." And don't tell them you have reported and petitioned them, so it is more likely they will be around when a GM or Guide gets to reading them.

Um, my roommate, actually. A lot of the stuff she's found came from days when she was bored and didn't feel like camping gobbies. It's sort of like shopping at the mall; you go in a store because you want to, not because you necessarily know that there's something in there you want. You might buy, you might not. /shrug.

And I would, too, if I had the money to randomly drop. Myself, I generally search with that lovely /bazaar window.


Only Slightly Related Bazaar Story:

Once an Iksar was sitting behind me, and I either was getting some sort of message, or just seeing with a different F9 angle, that he was stripping off his armor. So I said, 'Put your clothes on, hon, I don't swing that way' or some strange jest like that.

He repositioned himself so that, while both of us were sitting, his arm was interlaced with mine. Once I figured that out (took me a while), I nearly died laughing.
Then I just stood up, took one step over, and sat back down again.

Ok, less dramatic story, but I found it amusing at the time.
