  • Seeding vendor

    Hello fellow traders,

Remember the old days of vendor diving ? when vendor had more slot for soldback items than they were showing, we used to chk 'full' vendor ..buy smal quantity of cheap item on display to let the the hidden slot show up, and see if there was treasure there?

Now, we cant do that anymore, as vendor show everything they got and any item sold when vendor full get lost forever...

And nowadays, with less and less patch, vendor tend to be filled. as trader buy good item off vendor and players sell trash, vendor get filled with more and more 'pp trash' ... (I do hate the proliferation of 'pp trash' that only purpose seem to make sure nothing worth buying of vendor is avail)

I was looking to skillup my potery over 200, look the nice guide here, and found that 'unfired planar stein' is a good way to skillup, required 'tainted planar essence'.

So I make my way to differents vendor that has a good chance of having these sold back by player, ie: those near item's drop zone, or port loc.. .pok and pot vendor.

after looking all the vendor in pok, found only 1 stack on one vendor...

So I came up with an idea, seeding the vendor, but to be most effective, the help of other traders would be most usefull..

    Here how it works:
When I see a vendor not filled, I sold back 1 item i want to be able to find later ..
When I see a 'full' vendor, I sorted on quantity and lookup wich cheapest way i could free a vendor space from a 'no use, pp trash' item ..or items already avail in umlimited quantity from certain vendor ..like a cheap gems'
buy back the cheap slot, sell one of my wanted item, *and sell back that item i just freed .. might be lost forever, but no hurt..

that way, next time players sell the item i want, it will stay availlable for trader to buy back.

Now, to be more effective, some cooperation would be needed,

IF you are buying those item to skill up, leave at least one on vendor, so they can keep accumulating until next patch.
If you want to seed, make sure you free a slot with thing that no one else would miss.

Evidently, its not usefull to do that for some item. Like Blue diamond, as they sell well on bazaar, people would just buy hem right away.. but those almost worthless drop ...

    any comment?

There was already a thread about this and basically, the long and the short of it is that you can certainly ask your fellow tradeskillers on your server not to buy the seed item, but you have no right to expect/demand it. Not to mention the fact that not everyone is familiar with the concept of "seeding" so someone who is not "in the know" may come along and buy everything up anyways.

Moving this to PSR, as the last thread got flamey....

      huh ?

      lol, come on

It wasnt a rant, just an idea and suggestion... i didnt demand or expect that people do it ...

ok, i read the other thread, sorry i didnt find it before. but it does start flaming

I think my thread was only informative and appropriate, and some people might just help it along, if they havent tought about this issue before, puting this on the rant section doesnt help those not 'in the know' to learn about it.. (some does care less about rant heh)

heh, moderator privilege, as you wish

May not be a rant, but certainly qualifies as random chatter.

          1. Next time, send a PM if you have a problem with Moderator decisions re: moved threads or other issues.

          2. The last time this subject came up it degenerated into a flamefest. I even stated this was my reason for moving the thread, but I did leave a redirect so people would be able to find the thread.

          3. As Rawckett points out, it qualifies as "random chatter".

Speaking as one who is not in the know on such things as seeding, if I happen across an item that I want or need aI would probably buy it therefore negating the seeding. I at times am so naiev to the point of boredom.

I am saddened by the loss of Vendor mining but alas it will probably stay this way. I have tried on my server to get my Guild to only sell trash items to those outside Guild hall but to sell trade kill items to our own little Guild gnomes, this don't work either. I really wish that Vendors would delete items once a day of once a week there fore opening up some inventory slots.

Now a thought just popped into my mind, how many vendors do we now have in game and where are they all and what do they have is there a master list somewhere?

For what it's worth, our database of vendor NPC's is pretty darn close to complete -- I'd guess 99% complete. I made some changes a few weeks ago that allowed us to update vendors much more easily, and we've spent a goodly chunk of time since then doing the updates. =) I don't think there's a way to search only for vendors, but you can search for all the NPC's we list (which includes vendors) using the mob search. I've got some ideas on how to improve our vendor displays too that will hopefully be ready soon.

Unless you have someone in your guild hall almost all the time, this would not work. As soon as the guild hall instance closes, all the items on the guild hall vendor poof.

If your guild is reasonably good sized its an extreme rarity for guildhall to poof.
