  • Solstice Robe - Horribly Good Luck

I've been trying to raise my Drakkin chanter through self-sufficiency in all things. Equipment through quests and kills. Tradeskills through collected components or vendor dives, levels through actual xp groups, etc. I didn't even give him a stipend when I rolled him.

Imagine my joy when I found 10 gem-studded chains on a vendor, at tailoring 178!

I emptied my coffers (and all the emeralds I'd looted) and had enough, at the end, for 100 combine attempts. Seeing the vast disparity between my skill and the success rate for the robes, I figured I'd get through the costly silk before I ran out of chains.

I put my gummy bears on my top food slot, bought a Brilliance, removed my geerlok, and equipped my int gear. And then started...

...15 combines later, all 10 chains were gone. Now, I've got 85 more combines worth of silk that won't sell (and more importantly, are taking up my bank space) and no way to conveniently make chains (I want to get tailoring to 201 first, and my JC is 200).

Onward ho, to Drachnid silk. /weep

Heh... coincidently, I just found a total of 49 gem studded chains on two merchants today with a tailoring of 167 on my main and was wondering if I should try to start using them. /ponder

I have seen many gem studded chains on vendors recently. Maybe people do them more often to max out their tradeskill charms?

I found and bought around 400 immediately after TSS went live and have seen close to 500 more on vendors since. Whatever the reason, on my server they're out there for any tailor wanting to go to 252.

I think LoY swatches still make sense for anyone whose tailor has recipes to use the swatches later after skilling up making ribbons. To all others my recommendation is to get those chains while they're there, heck even if you can use ribbons get those chains.

Once you got them it's just a matter of hunting spiders and druids in Karanas. Just remember: it's kill the spider and ask the druid for imbues - not the other way round.

Oh, I can get more chains - and as a matter of fact, sold my soul tonight to pay for four bags of chains by trading a few hours of chanting materials - it's just the disheartening effect of seeing blank plat totals and nearly motionless skill scores that makes you want to scream. By the by, they must have decreased the failure chance on these things. I would suggest that this path be avoided by anyone hoping to skill up on-the-cheap.

at 178 Tailoring skill you have a 40.5% chance of a successful combine for the 252 trivial Solstice robes

Don't wear geerlok/trophy/other-skill-mod items while doing solstice robes...

I removed my geerlok device, but I suppose that's good general advice for those reading the thread. Y'know, I wonder if there are any really nice items out there, planned, with a negative modifier to a skill... =)

Well I am not sure how old your chanty is, but since I am a human we share the same materials needed for Ancestral Armor.

After you get done with Drachnid silk, (if you are a high enough level) I would suggest hunting the patrollers in SSRA for shissar scales. The Master armor starts at 248 and can take you all the way to 300. It was my skillup path.

Coulda afforded maybe 360 and been broke completely :P
                  bought 170 ish ..

Soon as I figure up how much its gonna cost me (Dont feel like going broke ..again) I will prolly be trying to get some skillups off of em..

So wish me horribly bad luck with successes and extremely good luck with skillups

Not sure what Vendors will pay for Solstice Robes but I know they Sell them to players for 16 Platinum and change so I would vendture a guess that its abysmal.

Can't quite remember the exact sell back price but it's about 13 plat. In my thinking I got the price of one of the three emeralds back.

Like you I found a wazooload of chains on a vendor, as I make them, I turn them in to my cultural tribute master. my lil 30 drakkin necro now has over 5k in personal tribute, they go to tribute master for 37 points. and a skill of 207 (from 190)
