I've been trying to raise my Drakkin chanter through self-sufficiency in all things. Equipment through quests and kills. Tradeskills through collected components or vendor dives, levels through actual xp groups, etc. I didn't even give him a stipend when I rolled him.
Imagine my joy when I found 10 gem-studded chains on a vendor, at tailoring 178!
I emptied my coffers (and all the emeralds I'd looted) and had enough, at the end, for 100 combine attempts. Seeing the vast disparity between my skill and the success rate for the robes, I figured I'd get through the costly silk before I ran out of chains.
I put my gummy bears on my top food slot, bought a Brilliance, removed my geerlok, and equipped my int gear. And then started...
...15 combines later, all 10 chains were gone. Now, I've got 85 more combines worth of silk that won't sell (and more importantly, are taking up my bank space) and no way to conveniently make chains (I want to get tailoring to 201 first, and my JC is 200).
Onward ho, to Drachnid silk. /weep
