OK...I've been doing tradeskills for oh, closing in on two years now (incidently, almost the same amount of time I've played EQ...I started early). And I've never cursed the RNG as much as I did the other day.
Setup: I'm in a higher-tier guild....finishing Velious and starting to move towards Luclin...currently there is one other guild on the same level as us and about 3 guilds/alliances above us on our server. So I have the potential to aquire some pretty nice gear, but post Tier 2/3 PoP items are a LONG way off.
A few weeks ago, I did a little advertising on the resident uber guild's boards that I would do pottery combines for free if they brought me the stuff (no, not with Higar, I have a toon that has 250 skill). I stated I would do them for free, but if they happened to bring extras of the ingredients for my personal use, that would be really cool. About two weeks ago, one of the people in the guild contacts me and brings me two sets of the items to create a Ceramic Sword of War...hit combine twice, two successes..woot! I now have an Extended Range IV item....very nice.
So, he hunts me down again a couple days ago for another combine, this time for a ceramic water sprinkler of marr. Only has the stuff for one combine, but gives me some extra fire mephit blood and living coal as a nice little tip-great, I can make some more ER IV items for friends/sale...very cool. I hit combine and fail....grr... He shrugs it off and says he'll hunt me down later when he finds more. These items are a pain to camp, apparently, because you have to fight in a water zone against high, high level mobs....and we all know water zones are the devil incarnate. A few hours later, he contacts me again for a combine, we meet, he hands me the stuff for TWO combines on a water sprinkler...OMG....Mana Pres IV if I can pull off another double success...and I just failed one, so the karma gods owe me this.
Needless to say, I failed the first and succeeded on the second.
/slam head into wall
/rude RNG...I hope you burn
Since they're such a nightmare to camp, and the camp is out of the way, the chances of him getting more a slim (not that I can blame him). So I should see mana pres IV in oh, say, a year or two /sigh
