  • Cheapskate buyer or greedy seller?

I had just set a buyer to buy some treant branches at 100p each. I had already cleaned out the sellers that had them under 200 each and when I /ooced the buyer someone called me a cheap skate.

The said seller was the same seller who called me a cheapskate a few months ago when I offered 500 for the same stuff when most were still in the 1k range. I wonder if he's just trying to drive the price up higher to compenstate for his tendacy to buy too much in buyer mode and then unable to sell for profit because price dropped faster than he could sell.

Am I a cheapskate or just staying ahead of the bazaar's falling price? And the seller just being nasty for trying to rile me? Anyway he and another seller have been placed on my ignore list.

As far as I can see, buyers usually offer prices that are approximately one quarter to two-thirds of the price found on sellers, with the price range being dependent on the rarity and desirability of the item in question. That way, somebody who comes it to the bazaar wanting to make some quick platinum from item X can sell it to the buyer (thereby getting much more platinum for item X than would have been the case if they had sold the item to an NPC vendor), and the buyer benefits by obtaining item X at a lower price than he normally would pay if he bought it from a seller. Both parties win.

As for the idiot calling you a cheapskate in /ooc, keep that fool on your ignore list permanently. Anybody who is so infantile as to mouth off to you in public in that manner doesn't even deserve to have his very existance acknowledged. I remember selling items using /auction when the East Commonlands served as the bazaar before the advent of Luclin, and one day some fool started saying "That's too high" and "That's high also" in /ooc when I advertised a couple of things. I also recall a poster on these boards who once came back to his computer to check on his sales in the bazaar, and some moron had sent numerous /tells to him saying how high his prices were, despite that the poster's character had been AFK! Total, complete idiots both of them, in the same league as the one who insulted you.

To finish this on an upbeat note, perhaps you can consider yourself lucky in a way. After all, I'm pretty sure you'll never group with that idiot now. Can you imagine what grief he could have caused if he hadn't opened his big mouth and you had the misfortune of grouping with him one day?

If the prices you're trying to sell things at are too high, then you won't sell the items.

If the prices you're trying to buy things at are too low, then you won't buy very many.

Every day I see people say "the bazaar price for X is Y"

        No... No no no...

That isn't "the price" that's the "not selling price" ... That's the price at which stuff DOES NOT SELL.

If you put something for sale at a lower than the "not selling price" .. it sells.
If you put something for sale at that price .. it doesn't sell.

Surprisingly, to most people, this causes the prices to decline. Until they reach a "selling price" and the item is exchanged for plat.

This works in reverse for /barter.

If you want to buy MDS in bazaar people have them for 22.
If you want to sell MDS the barter people offer 18 for them.
So the price is actually somewhere around 20.
People selling for 20 sell out.
People buying for 20 buy until they run out of plat.

(It's pretty bizzare ... the MDS has held it's value at around 20 for several months while most everything else has declined in price.)
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

You can thank the built in failure rate for the price of MDS's holding steady.

On the rathe the barters for MDS have been at 15100 for months. The sellers have been between 15000 and 15900 for the most part for that time.
