Arrrrrgggghhhhhhh!
Am so frustrated with tailoring, its my last TS to max and I am stuck on 292, 156 combines without a skill-up. I know thats not nearly as many as some but seeing as I have already had a bad patch of over 300 without a skill-up I am beginning to think I am bugged.
Would you just stop and admit defeat or carry on until the RNG decides it likes you again? (Bear in mind I am using othmir as I dont have a DoN option, ie 4 pelts per combine)

Yes, you certainly should bother! You've come so far in tailoring that it would a shame to give it up now, just when the finish line is in sight.

In the past, I occassionally did 300+ combines without getting a skill-up when my character was gunning for GM baking status. True, baking and tailoring are worlds apart in regards to availability of materials and time requirements, but the random number generator is still the same. See the "RNG has a sick sense of humor" thread for a demonstration as to what the RNG can do with tailoring skill-ups.

If you're really fed up with tailoring right now, then take a break from it for a while. When you feel ready, come back and give it another shot. With perserverance, you'll get to grandmaster status. Just hang in there!

Or do GM combines, if the quest isn't insane. Offer to make them on demand and just do them when/if people buy. You'll need some capital to start, of course. At 292 with 5% modifier, you have the max success rate on all the pieces.

The othmirs drove me crazy as well, aside from the GM gear people have mentionned maybe Master/Grandmaster symbols or PoP combines like earthweave, stonehide and storm rider gear could provide you with enough combines for some skill ups?
I personally did a lot of storm rider gear in my run to 300, all the components drop in BoT and you will actually get some exp and loot instead of mindlessly killing tons of greenies. It's not the fastest way but I always liked combining tradeskilling with hunting exp mobs.

I'd also suggest the DoDH seals bazu (magnificent hide), discordant (mottled hide) and if you can find the chronal (shimmering silk) as successes can be sold back to vendors for 952pp and has modified skillup chance same as DoN gear. So if you can farm the hides (drop off spideys in DoDH) or bazaar it's a cheaper way than GM.

When I was stuck at 299 I broke down and bought up every hide in the bazaar up to 1k as I figured even throwing away 20k for 20 attempts at a skillup was better than one GM attempt using a glossy drake hide.

Glad you got there. I've been sitting at 299 on my Tinker for I swear 150+ combines. I'm so starting to think the game's messed up (of course it isn't it is all just bad luck but still... grrrr)..

You kept plugging away, I'll do the same, and get there eventually!

On the plus side, my Trophy (which was at 63% when I got there is now at 85%) should at least be close.
