Yesterday I did a total of 450 MTP combines and only 3 skillups

Yes RNG can be evil. You never know, your next run you might get that last 4 in just a few combines and you'd be stuck with lots of leftovers. Or you might go another 1,000 before getting the last 4.
I've gone a few thousnads othmir fur with only a few skillup in mid 250 tailoring and several hundred treant branches in fletching.
