Every single combine exists in a theoretical vaccuum. No number of failures or successses previously have any effect at all on the chance to succeed or fail... unless you got a skill-up.

Failing two times in a row, or failing twice in a run of 10 has NO effect on the next roll.

Of course it does. Heart rate goes up. Forehead beads with sweat. Stress fractures appear in the plastic of your mouse while your other hand splashes coffee from a mug in a jittery grip. Your eyes narrow while a scream of pure blood-curdling rage moves into your throat, looking for that hated text to trigger an explosion that will make your spouse roll her eyes in exasperation yet again....
