  • PoR NOW required for new trophies

i have not bought PoR and was able to get my baking and alchemy trophies to lvl 7 and my pottery trophy to lvl 6. now after the 3/15/06 i tried to go and get my brewing task. i then recieved the message "you may not request this task because you dont have the required expansion". so after a month of the expansion being out they now decide to change this. typical sony way. but i guess it will all be good if they dont steal my current trophies

Before PoR was released, they said that having the expansion would be required to get the trophy tasks. The fact that you could, in fact, get the quests without having the expansion was a bug.

NGreth said this would be fixed, but that they wouldn't take away any trophies from those who had already gotten them.

So they didn't take away anything; they just fixed a bug which had a beneficial result for those who didn't purchase PoR.

Finished 8 trophies before todays patch made them impossible without PoR.
Shame about the smithing and tailoring I couldn't finish.
Not worth getting the expansion for that though.

I wouldn't at all be surprised if with the next expansion comes the "you can't combine these items cause you don't have the proper expansion" message.
300 in baking, brewing, pottery, jewelcraft, smithing, tailoring and fletching. 300 poison making. 300 alchemy. 300 research. 300 tinkering. 3300 total!! Luclin server.

They spend money to produce an expansion, therefore, they need you to buy it to recoup their investment and make a profit. Why is it so suprising? Its content you have to pay for.

Gawd forbid they fix a bug. This fix had been highly publicized that it was happening with this patch.

my complaint is that sony screwed up and now me, the consumer, has to pay for it. i could understand that if the quest NPC was in a PoR zone and NOT in a zone that EVERYONE has access to. besides trophies are trade skill items. recipes have never required an expansion to be able to make them. if i wanted to make magnetic armor, i dont have to have OOW to make it. making these trophies now require the expansion is just sony's way of trying to maximize profits. they have never made something accessible in game and then taken it away only to say you must now pay for it.

Spirit shrouders are in PoK. Accesable to all but not useable unless you have dodH.

There ARE recipies have required you have acess to an expansion to make them. Planar recpies only may be made in Tannaan containers.

It was their intent all along to flag theese Tradeskil quest NPC's like the Spirit Shroud dealers, They just omitted the code upon release.

It was a Bug, some folks got trophies who didnt purchase the expansion.
              Its been disabled.
Buy the espansion if you want the new content now

It would have made sense to put the quest givers in one of the new zones in the first place, but thats besides the point.

Under the circumstances it would be nice to allow the quest to be open to everyone for a little longer since many were 1-2 items away from finishing, but the items were next to impossible at the time. The things that come to mind are the Tailoring tasks which required concussive bola since there was no recipe available for the stunning concoction & the ale that required stone beans which were way too rare.

Long ago in the mists of pre-history I was a dev on a MUD. And we had to do a bug fix, and people abusing the bug were somewhat upset.

Player: Why did you take away the roses on Vendor P?
Itek: Because those roses could be purchased for less than they sold back for. It was a bug and we fixed it.
Player: Why is it a bug?
Itek: Because it wasn't intended to be that way.
Player: But it was coded that way, so it WAS intended.
Itek: No, it was a mistake, a bug, and we fixed it.
Player: but it HELPED me so it's not a bug, it's a feature
Itek: Sorry, but it WAS a bug.
Player: Well how do you define a BUG then?

                    (here's the important part)

Itek: A -bug- in a game is one which hurts you, or helps you, unintentionally. If for no reason something bad happens to you, with no way to avoid it, that's a bug. Conversely if you get something for nothing, or can get a great deal in a short time with little effort repeatedly, that's also a bug. No one intended for money to become meaningless in the game, so a method to generate an infinite amount of money for no real work is obviously unintended.

my complaint is that sony screwed up and now me, the consumer, has to pay for it
Yes, they did "screw up" and you benefited. But you're mistaken. You are NOT the customer. You did NOT pay for it, but got it anyway. Rather than take away your, clearly ill-gotten, gains they merely stopped it from continuing. It was a bug, clearly unintended, and it was fixed. You were not hurt. You have the OPTION at this time to BECOME a customer and pay for the benefit you seek.

Oh, personally I think you should buy the expansion regardless. Most of the tasks are very easy compared to previous expansions and the rewards are very nice. With the exception of the port stones in PoK I'd rate this the best expansion to date. It's MORE than worth the cost.

Compare ... Tipt task reward is a couple of nice drops split 6 ways. Takes multiple hours and can easily fail.

Borso's tasks from Relic take a couple hours, can't "fail" (could just take longer) and reward the entire group if they don't already have the reward. The earring/ring rewards are super-nice if you aren't Qvic+ geared.

It would be nice if SOE could give their product away free. But they are a for-profit business. And since we WANT (no NEED actually) them to stay in business if we wanna keep playing... occasionally we have to pony up.
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

The new spell research put in during DoD requires I go to Corathus Creep, a DoD zone, because that is where the merchant with all the supplies is located. While I might be physically able to do the combine if somebody brought me the stuff, nobody would want to be my errand boy for hours and hours running back and forth.

Ah, but you did NOT pay for it. You got something unexpected for free. When you go out and pay for the expansion, you will get what you paid for.

And anyone here who didn't buy it for the 8 more bank slots must not be a true tradeskiller anyway.

                        No Ticket No Shirt

I don't have the Prophesy of Ro expansion. I got all seven tradeskill tasks before the patch, and completed five of them. I hadn't heard that they were supposed to have been blocked, and I figured that it was just part of the game that they added. Yesterday I decided to get my alchemy and tinkering trophy quests underway with my alts, so I went to get the tasks. No luck, I found, and in a panic I logged in Silverfish to check what happened.

All trophies intact, all bags still in inventory, the two quests still in place (and the brewing task updated not to need stinkin' stone beans!!!) and all is well.

I think the nerf for non-PoR folks was done in a very sensible manner. Blocking the task instead of rolling back, or removing the trophies, or blowing out the unfinished tasks was quite fair. I'm glad I got what I shouldn't have, and even gladder that they didn't take it back. When money permits I'll be buying the expansion, if for no other reason to pay back for the trophies and bags I have now.

To those who didn't buy PoR and are now complaining about it, I say leave it be and consider yourself lucky for getting something for nothing.

No they are not. They are the reward for completing a PoR task.

Good thing too. Those who started the quest didn't get shafted with unfinishable quest or even lost it.
