  • Trying not to get too upset but, Trade Trophy quest items needs more thought

I will say one thing. Making a quest that requires you enter a zone which requires keys and flags to do the quest is bogus. Especially since the only way to complete the quest requires an entry flagging quest you can't do until you reach a certain level.

I'm talking about requiring someone needing a Pale Platinum Mace for Journeyman smithing trophy. For that matter the other item is bogus also Platinum-bladed Long Sword.

If you are going to make a quest then lose the zone flag requirement. Gates of Discord has been out for a while now, 3 years. It's time to deflag Kod'taz. Either that or change the items in the quest to ones equivalent and located in another expansion.

You might want to look at the recipe, as the items it requires drops in only the low end GoD zones with no flags...like natimbi.

At least you haven't spent the last 6 hours killing crappy exp mobs in OoW zones for the stone beans for the master brewing trophy. An item that people that spend all day in those zones claim to have never seen. At least your items are common drops.

I still haven't managed to do the Tipt trial successfully, so am not flagged for Kod'Taz either.
Master Brewer's trophy quest also needs drops from KT (Taelosian Mountain Tea Leaves)... I haven't started the smithing one yet, but will do very soon. (was lucky and found stone beans on a bazaar vendor)

Recipe requires rare drop from Kod'az for smithing.

A better rant on trophy quests needing more thought is the Expert Tailor trophy requiring a Concussive Bola, which in turn requires a Stunning Concoction I to make, which is currently an unknown recipe until shammies figure it out. Nothing like having your new trophy held hostage to a change in a completely different tradeskill.

I've tried a couple hundred different combines now with my shaman based on the text in the Throwing Better Things books, which is vague on one of the items needed for JUST the concoction in this quest but not the higher level ones. I even tried higher level combines for Stunning Concoctions that use different items. DNC, DNC, DNC, DNC....

"Recipe requires rare drop from Kod'az for smithing."

No, it doesn't. It requires aligned ore and raw pale nihilite.

It does NOT require shimmering aligned ore or shimmering nihilite (which, btw, are not by any stretch of the imagination "rare").

Let's see, in the bazaar right now on The Rathe, raw pale nihilite is going for 12pp. And heck, shimmering nihilite is going for 150pp. Aligned ore is going for 25pp each. No shimmering aligned ore for sale, but it is similarly cheap.

The higher level smithing trophy tasks do require these though, but if you managed to get your smithing to 250-300 you have zero trouble getting some of this stuff either yourself or for a couple hundred pp from the bazaar.

Funny, I'm sure when GoD came out I made a fair bit of cash selling Velium Gemmed weapons.... without ever entering KT. Have people even tried to get the ingredients before ranting?

                Let's see...

My Master Smith Test says: "Create 1 Pale Velium Long Sword"

                The recipie http://www.eqtraders.com/items/show_item.php?item=11360&menustr=035000000000 says:
Smithing Components: pale velium inlaid long sword blade, pale velium inlaid long sword hilt
                In: forge, tanaan forge
                Yield: 1
                Trivial at: 252

Both those items show "sheet of shimmering steel" as a requirement. To make that, you need a "bar of shimmering steel". To get that, you need http://www.eqtraders.com/items/show_item.php?item=12827

Which drops in Kod'Taz, a locked zone.

So yes, it does require Shimmering Aligned Ore... admittedly, only 1 piece.

                Grandmistress Baker - 300, Grandmistress Blacksmith - 300, Potter - 200, Brewer - 139, Tailor - 91

Cripes, what is with people and actually reading threads on everquest boards lately? From the OP:

"I'm talking about requiring someone needing a Pale Platinum Mace for Journeyman smithing trophy"

Pale Platinum Mace does not use any shimmering GoD materials.

From one of my other posts:

"The higher level smithing trophy tasks do require these though, but if you managed to get your smithing to 250-300 you have zero trouble getting some of this stuff either yourself or for a couple hundred pp from the bazaar."

I am well aware what is needed for these quests, including that the OP was complaining about something that wasn't the case, *and* that there is a drop form a "locked" zone needed for the higher level smithing tasks. But let;s be serious here, if you cannot manage to get a piece of shimmering ore, you would have never been able to get smithing to 300, because you would not have had the cash to ever get there in the first place.

It's always good to check various sources for info, my rogue did her beginners poison trophy and one of the items needed was "ashroot" here it showed as dropping of Imps in Naggies lair. Woke of 64 druid who would quickly AE a few, but on track they were LB to her

Was pretty annoyed that at lvl 35 my rogue could not get her trophy. So, zoned back to Lavastorm and wacked a few fire imps there as punishment for their cousins in Sol being LB to lvl 64, and guess what they drop the ashroot too. (update to this drop info posted).

If you read the text in these quests it tells you your friends are allowed to help as long as you do the end combine yourself. Use bazaar, guildies or friends to help with what you cannot get yourself.
So SOE does know some items are difficult, and it would not suprise me at all if this was added to get people to work on tradeskills together. (I did not need it for the ashroot as I found another source)

with all this not saying EQTC is not up to date or good, in fact one of my fav sites, but info might not always be 100% here if we slack submitting (very guilty of this myself)

Well I wasn't going to get into that one. I have a twink with that problem too. But I salute you, you got mine beat.

So I guess that country song said it best

                      "Pop a top agian...."

Arti, Ashroot drops of every mob in the zone. It's pretty common. Just pull a bunch and aoe.

Friends don't charge people 10 - 100k pp for an item. I recall shimmering ore being kind of a rare drop also. And the problem wouldn't be farming it. The problem is not being able to get into a locked zone. I can see Qvic/Tavci/Texvu being locked. That's the end zone. But in POP they at least had levels which people who are unkeyed could enter the lower zones. Almost all of OOW(cept Anguish) is open as is same for DON DODH(cept DS/Demiplane).

So now a farming zone like Kod'az needs to be open, at least give us a level requirement to enter. Especially if it's going to be a quest item zone.

The KT flag is insanely easier to get also. The removed the requirements for needing the 4 sewer trials + vxed + Tipt. Now all that is needed is Tipt. It's a one group mission and not at all hard now days.

It is not a hard flag to obtain at all. Not to mention the items you need are not no drop, so you can easily buy them in the bazaar. *shrugs*

for what its worth, these posts were all made within a couple days of the new expansion going live.

the world will go on if you don't get any of your trophies done within the first week. I'm sure ngreth intended for them to me at least somewhat challenging.

as a bit of advice for those with money to burn, now is a great time to use the /buyer mode in bazaar. make a list of things that you want, set it to a price that you know will get you one, and go to bed. you'd be surprised how many people suddenly remember that they've got obscure_item_01 collecting dust in one of their alt's banks...

Oh yes. I put up a buyer last night to see if anyone had a Stunning Concoction I lying about

The regular aligned ore needed for the journeyman smithing trophy can drop even in natimbi, and from pretty much any mob in the zone. I got one killing the squids and hynids for BiC drops last year. Boring to farm, but free. Sometimes people will even sell the gates TS drops (including KT+) to the natimbi magus. I've scored several in the past that way.

I rarely see the pre-KT gates stuff go for more than 25p each in the bazaar on my server. The KT+ stuff is usually no more than 200p each, and even that is pretty high since someone will inevitably put several up for 100p or so if you wait.

If you're on Drinal, need Gates TS drops, and the bazaar is empty, shoot me a tell. I often have several tea leaves, aligned ore, muramite scales, dark matter, etc (both regular and KT+ versions) from farming, just eating up bank space. /rude BiC farming
