  • Extra bank space with PoR

Am I the only one that has the horrible premonition about the extra bank space that will come with PoR.
I bet I will be overjoyed when I see those empty slots. I happily log and when I return I find that during my absence my crap has expanded not only to fill the new slots but also to leave me even more cramped for space then before.

I've already 'used' the extra bank space on three of my toons in my mind, I know exactly what's going in there. Of course some of it is just moving supplies around so that they are more convenient, and some of it is a few things I've wanted to be saving up and haven't had space to. Then there's also the stuff I have my bf saving on his account that he's already warned me I'll have to take back when PoR comes out. I figure I'll have my bank space full again before the following expansion

Back when I was first learning to write a little programming code years ago I was told the Second Aphorism of Programming: Code will expand to slightly exceed current size limitations.

Tradeskill gear seems to have that type of "creep" as well.

This whole hulabaloo would be easily avoided but making Traders Satchels 20 slots or more. Of course the carrot and stick of upcoming expansions might be somewhat blunted though.

I welcome the extra space, though I know I will fill it up quickly. My main fear is that it just provides that much more opportunity for confusion, as my organizational skills are nil. I mean, I really try to put things in some kind of logical order, but if I go back to the bank 10 minutes later, I have no memory of what my plan might have been and end up going through every bag trying to find what I want. This is just a fifty percent increase in search time for me.

I am *NOT* saying that larger bags will happen.

But if they do, trader satchels are not likely to change, at least not on the first change , because that has the other implications with the bazaar.

Increasing bag sizes requires a change in coding, and not an easy one, from what I understand from past Dev posts. They haven't said "never", but don't hold your breaths, as if it is ever implemented it may take a looooong time....

Maybe the bank slots can be coded that a trader satchel while in a bank inventory slot, the trader satchel has 20 slots, but if you take it out it has 10.

Or maybe special 20 slot bank bags that can only be used in bank slots.

Doesn't every single change made in the game involve some sort of coding? Obviously, I am not in this industry, but that would make sense to me.

No. Lots of things are just database manipulation.

Technically still "code" in one sense of the word. But not in the sense that it requires a programmer to modify things nor does it need to be compiled.

There's a difference between database objects and "core code." A new item or recipe is usually a database entry.

Changing the basics of how objects interact is core code. And sticky, messy, and risky to change.

/em envisions raw materials, quest items and trophies of past victories multiplying like Viagra-fed rabbits to fill the new bank slots...

Another 8 slots in the bank makes the whole expansion worthwhile, everything else is a yummy candy-coating

And what happens to the stuff you have in the other 10 slots when you take the bag out of the bank?

And how do you code a bag so that it can only be opened while it's in the Bank? I switch out tradeskill containers from the bank fairly often, so making it so that I lose that ability would be a bad thing. Further, it's easier for me to put a ton of supplies in one or two bags, then switch out those bags whenever I work on whichever Tradeskill those supplies are used in.

Don't use the 20 slot bags then. It was only an idea not a requirement. If you want to swap bags out use 10 slotters BUT if you have stuff you don't take out by the bag full use a few 20 slotters.

It was an idea of a way to increase bank space. If you are going to remove the bag don't use a 20 slot bank only bag.
