New UI, New Video Driver, New Crashes

Why oh why did the SOE Dev team decide we needed a new UI? I have had nothing but constant crashes since the patch this morning AFTER updating my video driver to the requested version. For that matter, why are there so many conflicts with video drivers caused by updates and patches? What ever happened to the old adage if it ain't broke, don't fix it?

I absolutely hate the fact that they changed the hotkey bars from vertical to horizontal.

I am so used to hitting buttons with my mouse, now I have to adjust to a totally new set-up!

It was a lot easier to see what each number did before... now it's just a nightmare and I can't find anywhere to put it on my screen that will actually make sense! Before, I had it nicely lined up with my chat box.

/prays that someone makes a nice UI mod for the hotkeys VERY SOON

Guess I got lucky because I kept running into connection problems downloading the new driver, so after 5 hours and multiple attempts I skipped it and went in game.
Tried the new UI for a couple hours and while I love the new mouse arrow, hated the new UI (too hard on my eyes, horizontal hotbutton, hard to see buffs, etc etc , I changed it back to old UI.

Am very happy that the new mouse arrow functionality works with old UI

I personally kinda like the new UI but I'm going to have to learn the new spell icons. :/

Was willing to deal with the horizontal hotkey buttons. Even reorganized all my windows to make it all pretty. But the spell icons were the deal killer. The only way I could confirm a spell was to cursur over it. Maybe I could have coped with the new spell icons if my hotkeys were in the right place, but the 2 things together just overloaded my lil ogre brain. (I hurtsssessss. /loadskin default_old.......aahhhhhhh.)

Now, my desktop only lets me got to 1040x768 and this seems to be my new cap for EQ. EQ used to let me go to 1280 by something. Is my max windows resolution tied to my video card or my monitor?

I kinda like it, too. It's more streamlined than the old default. The inventory window still seems a little bigger than is really necessary, but I might try to live with it rather than having to forever update, since that one gets so many changes. I do like the new spell icons better than the old default ones, although I'll probably end up going back to t.king's anyway, cause they're lovely.

Is my max windows resolution tied to my video card or my monitor?

Usually it's the monitor which is the limiting factor. But, if you were using a higher resolution previously on that monitor, chances are it's a driver issuse.

I have two computers running EQ. One has the updated drivers, and the other does not have the updated drivers. In all fairness, the video cards are of different makes, but on both setups, the highest resolution is 1040x786. It may well be the cap for EQ now.

I certainly hope there is another way to access the higher resolutions since I was previously able to open all my bags and see my entire inventory. I know it's a personal preference, but I truly enjoyed avoiding the 'bank-bag shuffle' as I worked to see what I had and where it was.

I like certain aspects of the new UI, the menu system will clear up a great deal of my previous 'senior moments' as I tried to remember how to get to things like the leadership experience window. However I use my inventory a GREAT deal more than I check my story lines.

If anyone knows how to use the newest default UI (because I happen to like the horizontal hotkeys) at a resolution greater than the 1040x786 please post.

I'm using the new UI quite happily at 1600x1200, and I also have an option for 1280x1024. No clue how I managed it, though.

What did you sacrifice on the altar of computing to get to that? I have a spare gnome or two that I'm not using if you think it would help.

Seriously, may I ask what your video card size/type/brand is please?

My PC is a Dell with a Radeon X800XT, stock settings, generic driver from a few months back, 256MB VRAM. Desktop resolution is 1600x1200, which is the native resolution for my LCD flat panel. EQ runs very nicely in windowed mode at 1600x1200 (taking up all of the screen but allowing me to switch to other windows while still monitoring chat or whatever), though I haven't tried full screen.
