  • DoN GM armor can be a cruel mistress

2 successes out of my most recent 6 attempts. Ouch. Most recently missed two in a row on GM leg aug at 265 after finally getting mastery 3. (Don't worry nice ogre on Fennin, I'll get that aug made yet.) Went from just over 44k in bank to 36 plat in 2 clicks. (And I was oh so happy to find those 2 hides for 22k each.) I know that this is well within normal for the RNG, but it is no fun going backwards.

Try going 1 for 8 on BP/Legs when scales were at 50k each...

(But yes I know how you feel!)

I've failed 6 leg symbols, 4 arm symbols, 2 bp symbols. Made one of each also. Was quite the mess.

One of my guildmates put it best in her perspective that she was just going to buy the armor and symbols because one fail and you are paying excessively more than what you would if you just bought it in the bazaar. That is the true crime in my opinion. And people wonder why they can't find the armor for their race/class in the bazaar. Tradeskillers get gouged to the point of never making a minimal to negligible profit... are we really going to even bother attempting the stuff?

I knew I was not the only one to have a bad stretch. (And really not that bad compared to the posts above. My heartiest sympathies.)

and Wyvern, your guildmates perspective rings truer now than ever. Prices of Glossy Hides have continued to rise, while resales of finished goods seem to have hit their ceiling. At some level you begin to compete with the nicer mob dropped loot and/or with items purchased directly from DoN merchants.

Seeing hide prices of 30K on that high end for hides on Fennin, but augs and 1 hide armors seem stuck at 50Kish.

Assuming a 60% cap on success rate (is this still the generally accepted number?) then 50k would be the exact break even point. Of course this does not account for time to do the symbol and pattern tasks and does not account for the cost of Blessed water and Purescale Ore.

I look forward to the day when Hides, scales and silks are put into the non-instanced loot tables. Even allowing them to drop in lower level instances would be a help.

I can not complain about the DoN armors much though. Currently I have gained almost 200ac off of the armor. In making my own armor, I have been quite successful, my only fail was on the arms, and I salvaged the sheet and the mold, and made it on the next attempt. Wearing Helm, Bp, Legs, Sleeves and working on the boots and possibly a wrist currently.

Other than the arm, leg and chest symbols, I have suffered no real failures on DoN armor, which is a good and bad thing in it's own respect.

I know on Tunare, it is next to impossible to get MDS for anything less than 35k. Glossy Drake Hides are 35k each also. Heck, I use to make boat loads of cash buying Discorant Scoriae for 30k each and selling the Black Gold Inlays at 100k each.... but even that's dried up as I can rarely find them at 60k at the lowest.

Just hard to find a way to turn a profit using trades. Luckily there is a chanter, cleric and couple ranger tradeskillers in guild that are all high smithing/tailoring. We usually team up and do Creator missions, finish in about 35-45minutes on average. 40 crystals a pop, selling for 150pp each, and doing 4-6 missions a night, I still pull in 30-40k a night when I need the cash.

Just sad that being almost GM in every tradeskill...... my primary money maker is selling crystals.

Ouch. my pain pales compares to what you must have felt. my condolences. So am thinking that the assumed 40% failure rate applies across the board, and is not restricted to the BP and the Legging pieces.
