  • Yet another skill up rant :P

    Ok most of the time I believe in the RNG, but this one really annoyed me. Working on alchemy today on my shammy alt and started at 212 (5% geerlok, 255 wis) making a 228 triv combine to skill up. Took 360 attempts to make it to 228 (360/16=22.5 attempts per skill up). So I figured the RNG was just not on my side. So at 228 I start doing a 234 triv combine...takes 118 just to get my first point!!! in total I did 240 (only failing 9 times in 240) attempts and got 5 whole points (48 attempts per point)and gave in.

    GGRRRRR....

    Thanks for listening :P

    In my experience, a skill up every 22 combines is very good (48 attempts is skewed by the long run.)

    I've had runs well over 100 (and sadly, 200). It's not uncommon, and unfortunately, expected.

      You kids, you're spoiled. Used to be we'd be overjoyed by only 22 combines per point in the upper 100's/lower 200's. Took me almost 1500 combines to get through the 190s in Jewelcrafting, with INT near the then-maximum (this was pre-PoP, so 250-ish). Yes, that's 150 combines per point, for 10 straight points. (It was actually worse than that, 199 and 200 came on consecutive combines at the end, some of the middle points were just brutal...).

      And that's not even the worst story I could tell you...suffice to say, the RNG is a cruel, cruel wench, and you haven't seen the worst of it. But it averages out.

      So go pop a (insert beverage of choice), take a break, and get back at it.

        ....and we had to walk uphill both ways just to get to the forge (which we had to build ourselves)... in waist deep snow (or lava for the dark elves.. OUCH, that hurt).

          I wazs SOOOOO thinking this.
          I call for the elimination of EQ levels 1-50.

            Wait til he has to actually farm his materials for 255+ combines, heh

            I actually found 1-255 to be extremely easy. I only with SOE would fix the potion so they are immediately stackable and get rid of the stupid 2nd bag combine. It's obviously unnecessary now code wise.

              Out of curiosity I had to punch in the figures in my skillup calculator...

              Skill difficulty: 4, Recipe trivial: 234, INT/WIS: 255, Geerlok: 5%, no AAXP.
              Skill 228->229 Gain%: 4.80 -- 10%: 47 1%: 94 0.1%: 141 0.001%: 235

              What it says is there is 1% chance to do 94 combines in a row without skillup. Had you failed 141 in a row it would have been "1 in a 1000".

              Your previous run from 212-228 should in average require 309 combines, so it seems it wasn't your day at all.
