The most interesting thing I picked out of this discussion was raw strength -possibly- being a sinking factor. Poor Minta always sank like a rock until she got out of bazaar gear, despite very low encumbrance and a shiny newer computer, and that low gnomie strength might explain it. I couldn't even jump Howling Stones with F10 pressed and the very lowest screen resolution.

Clamford - I'll try that swim you promised and come back with locs if it works for me.

Fox - Bring pearls and bribe the mages, along with a wizzy or druid. On Fire raids, I'd hand over pearls at the zone-in and before the raid had officially begun, I'd be CotH'd past that blasted wall and the others would succor back to the raid in time for MGBs.

COtH doesn't work for the PoN river crossing...of course.

SOE has to ensure the crocs and Hobgoblins get the occasional feeding, after all.

        Aaarrrgh!

After considerable experimentation, I have discovered what I was doing wrong! It was SO SIMPLE to prevent my virtual self from sinking! I merely misunderstood a piece of advice for reducing the frame rate.

As a test, I went up to the library in the Plane of Knowledge and got up onto the wall where the Priest of Discord resides next to. Then, with the aid of levitation and riding a giant drogmar, I struck out east without using the "piece of advice" for increasing the frame rate. I prompty sunk down like a lead anchor, without even reaching the rooftop of the inn that plays that annoying music at night.

Then, returning to the top of the wall and exercising the "piece of advice", I headed out east again. I was touching the tops of the trees near the eastern extremity of the zone before I stopped. My test was a success! Now I'll know better the next time I make a river run in the Plane of Nightmare.

By the way, I am NOT revealing what the "piece of advice" is. It was so obvious, that I'm ashamed to mention it.

Thank you all for your input into this matter. It was greatly appreciated! With any luck, I shall no longer be feeding the fish!

Ummmmm, ok... As one who suffers from this can you just whisper it so *I* don't have to suffer from this debilitating anti-levitation problem too? I do so hate it that SoE leaves me dripping from my encounters in Natimbi, not getting attacked mind you, I just can't lev accross from the restless souls to the Magus without seeing my wet friends in the water.

The only two hints I know of are "looking up" and that it -seems- that one sinks less in exterior view than in first-person.

It also helped me tremendously when I updated to a higher speed ISP from dial-up.
