  • Need To Yell

Hehe. Ok sorry I had to get this out of my system. Been doing Mistletoe Sickles. I am currently at 278 skill. I have so far done 144 combines with no skill-up. Come on! I have to say this ridiculous. On the plus side guild and personal tribute is way up

When in doubt, scream and shout!
I call for the elimination of EQ levels 1-50.

It sounds as though the random number generator reached out and bit you good. Don't sweat it, it happens to us all once in a blue moon. I believe, in the past, I've done a couple of runs of 100 misty thicket picnic combines without getting one skillup point. It's just the luck of the draw.

Keep plugging away at it. You're bound to get a lucky streak where you get a whole whack of skill increases in a short period of time, and that will more than make up for your run of previous bad luck!

Well finally after 145 combines of various things I got a skill-up. The one thing I forgot to mention is that these combines were done over a 3 day period. I could understand it a little more if I did these at 1 time, but over 3 days??

That's really irrelevant. Although some people (myself included) feel that the RNG can be streaky at times, in reality, each combine is completely separate (independent) to any other. What happens on this combine is in no way, shape or form affected by what happened in any other combine, whether it was 5 seconds ago, or 5 days ago.

Oh, and also remember that the RNG is sentient, evil, and doesn't like you.

The RNG is not really a random number, it's a number calculated on a large seed designed to try to keep anyone from accurately predicting the result, frequently based on the current time calculated to absurd decimal points (though better seeds are available these days).

It is nonetheless theoretically possible, with precision timing, to deconstruct the action of the RNG calculator in order to optimize your chances. Where I come from this is called cheating, and I have refrained from using my skills in mathematics and computers to attempt to do so. Furthermore, if someone skilled in writing RNG programs wrote the one in EQ, they can make it really not worth the necessary investment to do so.

There is definitely an argument though for doing large sets of combines at one time, if you want slow but consistent advance, rather than doing 1 combine at a time over an arbitrarily defined period. The set needs to be sufficiently large (in the mathematical sense) however, to span the rotational period of the RNG, which properly should be ill defined.
