  • Sort of Bummed Out ... Need a Hug

I've been a faithful tradeskiller since day 1 ... way way back in the misty beginning of the game. Continued this predilection right on up until now. But for some reason this latest expansion with all the changes to our beloved Tradeskills has me feeling blue and despondent.

What is it? What is the source of these feelings? Is it because they made changes to the trivials without telling us first? Is it that they made the last 50 skill ups to 300 even harder than ever before without a clear way to progress from 250 to 300? Is it because the sort of items you can make now no one really wants? Is it because even IF you decide to skill up (addictions are oso hard to break) tradeskill components are still way over valued or non existant in the bazaar? Is it simply that I had thought I was FINALLY ***** done with skill ups and that whenever I think of skilling back now my body starts quivering violently and shakes??? LOL ~ Maybe it's the lack of ANY information (at least none that I have seen) about some of the wonderful new ideas / items that players can do with tradeskills. OMG - SOE PLEASE give us a reason for wanting to be tradeskillers. Stop fearing that you will make Tradeskillers "over powered", go ahead a take a chance. Help me rekindle that flame ... that itch I use to get in the palms of my hands when I thought about making things! PLEASE give us back that excitement we got when we thought about making something that was actually useful and DESIRED by other people.

I don't think a player's hapiness should hinge on whether they can price gouge another player and make money off of them.

Not quite the hug that Baltazor was looking for, Kaaba....

I too have become less than excited about tradeskills anymore. I will still try to get all my skills maxed just because I'm obsessive about that sort of thing, but I have no expectations of being actually useful to anyone anymore, since there are so many great items out there that people can get as drops or for quite cheap. Tradeskills are losing their allure in the wake of SoE's apparent disregard for skills and skillers. I remember when I was actually in demand by my guild, to make them cultural armor or other items that they wore with pride, and I never charged a thing. It's not about price-gouging or making money, for me it's about pride in one's crafts, and the ability to do things that other folks can't, but wish they could. Lately, why bother?

Hey I'm fine with using tradeskills to help your guild and your friends. When someone puts something in their post about the ability to make something DESIRED by others, that just screams "I want to make a lot of plat from tradeskills!" I just call them as I see them.

Call them like you see them, or call them like you decide to call them when saying nothing would be better but it sounded like a good idea at the time because I can make someone else feel bad and myself feel better?

Whew.. that was a long question

                  A hug? Whats that?

I don't know how to hug but I found this for you as I was sacrificing my last kill to Cazic-Thule.

There's a huge difference between someone who wants to price-gouge (10k for Bent Magnetized Pauldrons? That's price-gouging), and someone who wants to make stuff that people would actually want to buy.

Making money off a player for something that's worth it... providing value for the cash... There's nothing wrong with that.

I think he's having the same problem as me: nobody wants to buy tradeskilled stuff at a modest markup over the component prices anymore (except for the alchemy/poisonmaking augments). Tradeskill items are no longer useful to players, their only purpose seems to be for skilling up.

I prefer selling at only a modest mark-up over component prices...

But most of the time, people are asking more for the components than I can sell the finished pieces for!

Example: Tae Ew Blood Vial. Usual asking price: ~1kpp

Best price I can hope to sell:
                        Tae Ew Shield: 650p
                        Tae Ew Longsword: 900p
                        Tae Ew Two-Handed Sword: 900p
Tae Ew Chain Leggings: 2k on a good night, 1800p normally.
Tae Ew Chain Tunic: Same as Leggings.
Other Tae Ew Chain pieces: 1400-900p each.

The Chain requires 2 Bloods each, the Swords & Shields require 1 Tae Ew, 1 Iksar (200-400p each), 1 Froglok (100-300p each) Blood each.

On Xegony, most people want 2k-per-brick-value for raw Magnetized pieces, and 8-11k each for BPs & Leggings. This means the materials cost for a BP or Leggings is 16-20k. Yet I can't sell the BPs for more than 14k or the Legs for more than 16k.

I soooo Agree! I doubt I'll ever get to 300 in any of my skills but basically I'm happy if I can hit 250 - it might be another story once I get there.. ( My first goal was 100.. lol)

I seam to be spending more and more on my Research addiction. I have given up on words from guildies. My guild mates are lower lvl than me and the words they find cannot help me raise above 162. I am into vendor diving three times a day now. It is worse than a KEI addiction.
