  • The Buyer Blues

So I come back from a hard days work hoping somebody sold me some of the OOW teir 1 armor drops that seem to be going for 50-100k when I usually check in the bazaar. (Plate classes have it rough)...

Granted, I have a buyer line for Holgresh Elder Beads at 25k, just for the heck of it... nobody else has a buy line for them...

7 tells... not nice tells, nobody asking for a deal, nobody calmly saying anything about any of my other wares... but 7 tells, all telling me (in some unpleasant terms) that I'm an idiot and nobody is going to sell me those Holgresh Elder Beads... you're stupid... blah blah blah, they go for 500-600k... blah blah... you will never ever obtain them you n00b... and some people one person tried to convince me that 800k is a reasonable amount to set as a buyer.

Gah... does anybody else have this kind of harrassment as a buyer/seller?

Yep, one of the reasons why I never guild tagged my bazaar mules despite the rest of my guild doing so with theirs. Didn't want some disgruntled fool with a 'tude hassling my guild leader over a price I was charging in the bazaar.

Seems really, really stupid that someone would give you hassle over a buy line though. Considering they probably didn't even have such an item to sell their attitude just really stinks. And the same principle applies to the bazaar, you set your price and people can chose to trade or not - no-one is forcing them to trade at your price, you are merely setting your terms for one item not establishing a serverwide monopoly.

My view, if you set the buy line at 25k and someone is prepared to sell the item to you at that price then darned good luck on you.

All the time. Indeed, I have determined an important and useful aspect of human nature that I now use regularly to save myself some effort.

I used to ask for the occasional price check. Every once in a while I'd get a reply, but not often. No problem. I assumed no one knew - If you don't know, don't answer - reasonable.

I've noticed however, that if you ask a question in a crowded room, you’re likely not to receive a response. But, if you say something wrong – 20 people will be sure to correct you!

So, I don’t ask for price checks anymore. I just put down a price I know is ridiculously high. Doesn’t take long to get a correction.

(But, yes I agree with you – there are far too many vocal, rude, obnoxious people.)

Hmmm, I have a few items on my buyer at 'dream' prices, and I guess I've been lucky so far because I've only received one or two tells about it. But you have to dream, right? And stranger things have happened... I've actually gotten a few amazing items at much lower than bazaar value already so I'm encouraged

I agree with everyone. Those rude people should shut up. You are not making them sell the item at your set price that you want to buy it for. Its not like you are hounding them to sell the item at your price. You have a set limit on how much you want to spend. If you are like me you get your money from looting all the yard trash that noone else wants and pinch each copper. I only have atm 23,000 pp in the bank and it is all from selling yard trash to vendors. I watch bazaar prices on items that I want. If it is the price I am willing to spend...then I pounce on it. If not I wait patiently. I have gotten every thing I want so far at a very low price. Silver Chitin Hand Wraps...these go for around 2500 + pp for a crappy 22% haste. I have gotten some for all my melee chars. I have paid no more than 1000 pp for any set of these hand items. I am always looking for the best deals. I remember buying 10 items for 5k and using some of them then making my money back selling what I dont want in the bazaar. Use a little money to make a little. So....put your dream price on it. If someone wants to get rid of an item bad enough it will be yours.

PS: I just got a 3k neck item for free. Someone just wanted to get rid of it and didnt want to waste time in the bazaar!!!!

As I set up my bazaar mule, I often check the barter window, and once or twice a week I have something I'm wiling to let go at what the buyers are asking. Now I have to admit, the buyers on our server tend to pay about 1/2 the bazaar prices. I have also sent tells to a few buyers. Normally that's only to ones who aren't even offering what a merchant would pay for an item. However, I have had chats with a few buyers where we struck a deal between what they are offering, and what I was asking for my items... But I would never dream of sending rude or worse tells to any of them.

Also, sometimes, though not often I am actually at my mule after setting her up, and I have recieved tells asking for things like batch prices a little lower than what I'm asking or even just a semi lower price in general for something I have. Rude people simply get a no, and immediately put on ignore, I will not waste my time on them. Polite people, in general and within reason, get close to what they ask.

I just had my first bad expierence with a rude person. Not overly terrible but enough to erk me and repost here. Asked me if I had actually anything good on me. I dont remember ever making this jerk come to my vendor to buy anything. I sell mostly low end gear and some tradeskill items. If the jerk didnt want to buy from me then shut the heck up and move on. Thats all I got to say!!!!

Some people just like complaining to buyers and traders. Just put your items on whatever you think is fair, and ignore the comments on it. Dream prices sometimes work, keep dreaming =) I was amazed when I actually got my ornate silk bracer pattern for 25K on my server thanks to buyer mode when they still went for 70-95K on traders, made my chanty very happy. If people don't like your price, they shouldn't buy/sell the item. I normally work out some deals when I'm in trader/buyer mode and people ask friendly. I have had some rude comments from people as well, but easy as it is... "Don't like my prizes? Save up, buy something else you can afford, or go farm it, it's not my job to give you a huge discount so you can twink your chars with gear out of your pricerange." For the rude comments in buyer mode... I'll just wish m a pleasant stay in the trader stalls =)
What also works: ask them what the correct PC on the item is if they claim your price is insane, I had a guy telling me once Fungi Tunics are only worth 10K because they are so easy to get... I placed an order for 5 of m, he instantly went quiet lol. Same thing with someone selling a manastone in auction and other people claiming those where only worth 50K, I offered to pay double =P To bad none of those items where ever sold to me, and never reached their so called normal price in the bazaar hehe, a lot of the people being rude about others pricing have no clue what they are talking about.

Only time I'll ever comment on prizes:
-People keep spamming they are the cheapest when they aren't
-Buyers offering less than the NPC's give for an item
-People auctionning to buy items at less than what people are offering in buyer mode.
-Traders that undercut (me) with 1pp on items that go for 10K+ (I don't mind undercuts but at least give potential buyers a reasonable discount or keep the price equal). / Buyers that offer 1pp more for the 10K+ item I'm looking for in buyer mode.
I always give those people a tell first, sometimes place the kind /ooc remark if people could stop spamming they are buying DoN crystals at 100pp a piece less than I've been offering in buyer mode if they won't respond =P

                    People are rude...

People just like to get their 2cp out there (kinda like this); they just do not seem to understand how to express themselves well. I don't buy/sell from rude individuals either, but most of them seem to be either wanting items at (what I consider) ridiculous prices or do not even have an interest in the item(s) they are commenting on.

Myself, I just keep my opinions on item prices to myself, unless someone puts out a PC. I watch the buyers with their interesting prices (buying blue diamonds for 100p?) and sellers with theirs and see their items not move. If you want something at a price, I say go for it. If no one likes the price, you obviously will not get it. Just makes sense to me.

Some people just do not know any better and get taken advantage of (just like real life, wow). Why is Fuzzlecutter Formula 5000 selling for 2p in the bazaar? How many people bought Festive Doll's while they where still available for free?

How many times have you seen an "/ooc any pawn shops open"? How much do they get "taken" for if they are just trying to make the quick sale? Some people have not patience and they pay for that.

Convenience, ignorance, and stupidity come at a cost. Help those that want help and put the rest on ignore.

I have to wonder...same 4-5 folks buy up spells either from OT or the library and jack the prices up. 500pp for a spell that might be 41pp in OT, for example.

On one hand, kudos for creativity. That's pretty clever.

On the other hand, I'll never buy from any of them. If I have doubts as to where a spell is available, I KNOW upon seeing it on one of those mules that it's vendor purchased.

I guess this is my upside for last week... someone sold me (really early, around 6AM EST) about 200k worth of gear for 100k...

already made my money back and after a bit more wheeling and dealing, I still have about 150k worth of stuff to sell, including a Bonespur Talisman, Singing Steel BP, Ukun Muzzle of Savagery, Full Capacity Gnomish Vanishing Device, and more!

Guess Drinal has its ups and downs... now to find a really cheap Ukun Quill...
