  • Is there some glitch in the RNG??

I just did 205 casserole dish combines (current skill 188, trivial of casseroles 199) with Geerlok (95% success) and got ONE skill-up...what the $#%^$$ is up with that??????

Has anyone seen this type of glitch? 205 combines...ONE skillup....?????

    Short Answer: Yes.

Long Answer: Getting up to 190 is considered a tradeskill "hell level" due to the nature of the tradeskill formulas. Because it is a "random number generator," there will be some droughts in skillups, just as there will be times when you get several skillup points in a row.

For example, last night I was doing MTPs to finish off skill. Over the course of 200 combines, I gained 22 skill points. When you factor in that your max possible chance to gain a skill point is 5% or 1 in 20... That was less than a 1 in 10 chance for me. Even though in that skill run, I wen't through 100 combines without one skill up.

The RNG is a major PITA. That's why so many were happy about the way trades were done in EQ2 with a seperate bar for "Tradeskill Exp."

Now Ive just passed 500 combines and Ive gotten a whopping ten points. This isnt me being a noob..I'm 210-250 in all other tradeskills, including alchemy and research and I know the general rule of thumb..hehe...I NEVER had problems like this previously...

I got 3 points in 305 combines...10 points in 505...thats less than 1 in 50, and statistally, 505 combines is a pretty large spectrum to test

I'll post after I do a couple more 1000 combines (at this rate that should be pretty accurate) and see if the trend remains steady, or if its just a HUGE band of bad luck.

I just finished pottery yesterday and during the run from 282, I started with 2 skill ups in the first 328 combines before getting 4 more in the last 40 combines of my second batch.

Then I got one skill up in each of the next 5 stacks, none for 3 stacks and 4 more in the last 2 stacks of my next run. I finally moved to doing 1 stack at a time and got no skill ups for 2 stacks and my last 3 on the next stack.

Even during the run from 250 to 282 I ranged from 2 runs of 100+ combines between skill ups to 1 stretch of 10 increases in under 100 combines.

Big streaks of good and bad luck are a normal part of doing the 1000s of combines needed to GM a tradeskill. The Everquest RNG sometimes seems streakier than it should be, but not as much so as some people think. Also, skill up rates are highly sensitive to having int and wisdom both under 200 and really long runs of 200, 300 and even 500 combines without a skill up used to be common when higher stats were difficult (at one time, impossible) to achieve.

the rng is very streaky, I remember 1 skillup that took 205 combines, and i also remember the next session where i got 4 in a row.

post 250 in the latest skillups i havnet done so bad but i have had 50 combines with none and 1 stint of 3 in a row again as well.

overall given enough combines you should find it all averages out unless youre very unlucky, but the rng is a royal pain at times

*sigh* I guess I'll put it off to bad luck then...lol. Normally I wouldnt be so aggravated, but in the past I havent had such problems until I broke 200. Its just driving me nutz...lol

Thanks all for responding...made me feel a bit better, and provide *some* hope for th efuture!

What is your wis/int at? Any change to make it higher? That will help in skilling up.

                    The Best and the Worst

My worst tradeskill run was 409 combines without a skillup.

My best was seven skillups (193-200 tailoring!!!) in twenty combines.

So, I figure it averages out.

I have noticed that some trades are a bit more...streaky than others.

Baking/Brewing, I got from 230 to 300 getting skill ups almost on average 1 in 15.
Fletching I had multiple 40 stacks without getting a skill up, then maybe 1 in fourty, then a run of 4 skill in 40... then three or four without a skill gain.
Pottery especially seemed streaky when I went from 200 to 250. It may just have been the level of combines I was doing, but Baking/Brewing would have ruled that out. Wish there was some consolation I could give ya.

For me it's the 300th point of jewel craft who was hell. 405 int, Trophy, JC3. That take me neer 200 combine for it.

The RNG is not well balanced anyway. They should change it... Make bad or good run less long...

There is no such thing ... its random.

If they did that then it wouldn't be random. Random numbers DO have streaks... such is the nature of randomness.
