With the recent success of the tailoring trivial level changes, allowing anyone to make the velious leather armor and ceremonial solstice robes with a significantly greater chance of success and thus making tailoring a much bigger money maker for the tradeskill community, we've decided to make some additional changes to Everquest in line with the changes to tailoring trivial levels.
Boats return to Norrath! Boats will now travel once every 5 hours and take another 2 hours to ride somewhere. This is an upgrade from the gnomish porters that used to port you instantly, and even an upgrade from the old boats that traveled every 20 minutes. We believe that this gives an increased feeling of large size to our world. This also is much more realistic, as travel by boat in fantasy worlds is not something that happens with significant frequency. Given the number of riders, boat companies would naturally only serve a reduced transit schedule.
Horses now take 30 seconds to get to full speed, up from the old 3 seconds. This allows the horse to better warm up and not risk injuring itself, and adds an exciting sense of realism to the game. Additionally, it now takes two minutes for your horse or drogmor to find you after you call for it, thus adding even more realism!
Books have been removed from Norrath, with the exception of the book connecting PoK and PoTranquility. Characters need to get a port from a wizard if they wish to travel to PoK. We have listened to the complaints of wizards that porting is no longer a viable moneymaker and are taking this step to address their concerns about the usefullness of one of their primary class roles as taxi. Sony has implemented another change from the player community!! We even went above and beyond what the players requested in this case by removing the portals from the nexus. In their place, the NPC's will now sell a variety of tasty food and drink!
We've removed the new tradeskill interface, as well as the ability for people to hold down control in order to grab a single item off of a stack of items. We want people to only be able to skill up in tradeskills if they REALLY LOVE tradeskills, so by making this important step to add in difficulty and slow down the progression of tradeskills, being skilled in a trade will be more meaningfull.
But the real reason for not being able to grab a single item off of a stack of items has nothing to do with tradeskills. We've removed the ability for items to stack. If you had a stack of items, you now have one of the item. Once again, more realism!!
Along those lines, we don't think it's realistic for players to carry six or eight backpacks full of stuff. Players can now carry no more than one back pack and one belt pouch.
Bank space safety deposit boxes are no longer linked across the world. You need to take the item out of the same bank you put it into in the first place. You only start with the bank in your home town, to add more banks requires a quest. We're working hard to implement this quest, but we don't have an ETA for this yet.
Banks now charge rent for using their spaces. This space has been reduced from 16 slots to 8 slots (4 slots if you don't have LoY expansion). To access bags that were in the old slots at the time, simply delete the bag and items in one of the existing bank slots and you'll see the one that used to be in a higher numbered slot.
In order to address rampant twinking, we're taking similar moves with the characters on each server. With the success of the Firiona Vie server, we've decided to allow only one character per server per account. If you don't like the character in the top slot, simply delete each character one at a time until you get to the one you want to play. We understand that this might not be a popular change with the player base, but we feel that this drastic action is needed to help address scammers using multiple characters to run "casino" style games in the bazaar or in pok, as well as to trick people out of plat and then never be seen again. We feel that casino games run by players is not in with the vision we have for the game, and that if people want to play in a casino, they should visit shadowhaven.
Speaking of which, we've upgraded the casino in Shadowhaven, to make it more in line with what we've seen the player base try to set up in the bazaar with their own casinos. The casino manager now sends you tells every twenty seconds while you are in the zone, asking if you would like to gamble. He asks you to hand over your plat and then roll /random 1000. If you roll before he tells you to do so, he claims you cheated and he keeps the money. He says that if you roll over 600, you get double your money back, and that if you roll over 950 you get triple your money back. However if someone does roll over 950, the casino manager despawns and then respawns in 30 minutes with a different name. This is in line with what we see in the bazaar casinos and is working as intended.
Moves of characters between servers or between accounts is no longer permitted. It's too costly for us to pay benefits to the people that used to perform this service, so we've laid off all of them and increased the bonuses for senior executives to compensate for the additional profits generated by this move.
Renaming characters is no longer allowed by anyone other than SoE. If we feel that your name does not fit in with our vision, or if someone complains about your characters name, we will randomly assign you a name to be your new permanent name.
Ranger bow damage has been doubled for pvp -- there are not enough rangers on pvp servers and we think this will encourage more people to re-roll as rangers. Given their usefulness in groups and raids, this change makes a lot of sense.
Spells can now do a maximum of 10% of your CURRENT hitpoints in damage, quite an improvement from being able to do a max of 40% of your TOTAL hitpoints in damage. This balances out with pure melee's need to get into range in order to hit someone with a weapon, thus making pvp much more fair. We're working on even more exciting new changes for pvp, stay tuned!!
