  • /Sigh..new alchemy cap

I know sony ment well by raising the alchemy cap but without lowering the costs of the reagents to make some of the potions to skill up on post 200 only a extremely few will ever even attempt to skill up .
Now i know this is not even close to scientific but the cheapest potiions i saw to skil lup on was 1 that trivs at 234 and costs 66 plat per combine. And another that trivs at 255 at a cost of 120 plat per combine.
Here is where i become angry and upset.Take just a basic formula of 1 skill up every 40 combines. The first is 66 plat mulitply that times 40 you get a avg cost of 2640 per point. Now that is from 202 to the trivial of 234 at 32 points that goes to over 84k plat. Now take the second potion from 235 to 255 at 120 plat per combine times 40 comes to 4800 plat per point. That comes to 96k plat to trivial that one. That comes to a base total of 180k plat to just raise it from 202 to 255 .
Now i know people with have better luck than a 1 in 40 and sure hope is the case but good lord noone in their right mind is going to even remotely spend close to that raising alchemy.
I love playing my shaman but why do i feel like i didnt even get kissed on this one.

Are your numbers taking into account the sell back value? Ie, is that 66 plat per combine for sucess or failure? How much do you get when you sell it to an NPC? How much would another player pay for it?

Will check the sellback value when servers come back up.As for selling to other players the first one is greater mystical infusion all it does is add +100 mana to your pool for 20 mins .like thats going to sell good.
The second potion is potion of mystical apitude is helps you fizzle less by adding 3 levels to the fizzle check also only lasts 20 mins.
As can see neither one will come close to being wanted .
Ok just checked and sell back on both to the npcs are 9 gold 5 silver 2 copper at a 175 charisma.

        You're complaining about 66p - 120p per combine?

Have you done any other tradeskills?

Just taking a quick look at JC, platinum bars go for about 102p and velium for 262! And that's not including the gem!

I don't think smithing or tailoring are any better.

JC successes sell back basically at cost.

I can spend 5k to make 20 potions, that sell back to the vendor for 9pp each... how is that cost efficient?

Yes i have done the other tradeskills.Want to talk about JC yes they sell back at basically the cost to make and if use combines close to your trivial you dont lose many that way so you dont lose very much plat. Now some smithing sellbacks do suck but is offset by being able to farm most if not all the ingredients same for tailoring. We shamans do not have that option to get our skill post 200 are some before that can be old world drops to skill up on to save some costs.
I am holding out hope that some of the new recipies from DoN will help but some trivials already reported below 155 =(.

JC is a loss, even on successes - failures are far more painful.

Honestly, 66-120pp per combine for a vendor sold skill is very kind. I'd pay that any day of the week for Smithing or Tailoring, considering I've spent far worse per combine for both skills.

I agree with you that such a cheap combine for smithing or tailoring would be pleasant, but there are very few alchemy items that are desired by other players: gate potions, sow potions and OoW augments are about all I can imagine. The items sell back to the vendor for about 1pp, and I haven't managed to sell or use the hawk's eye potions that I've made in the past. My ranger twink can cast a spell that does better than the potion.

The shaman with the +15% alchemy item (in my guild) has since quit the game. Our guild has quit doing Vex Thal (and the +alch item is a drop from a mob at the end of an 8-10 hour raid-crawl thru VT). I'm about the only shaman in my guild that bothers pressing combine for others, and until I fix my computer, I won't be.

On my server, there was one guy (in the bazaar) selling gate potions for just over cost. As a result, all the other regulars quit making gate potions. The lowballer has since quit the game, and almost no one has gone back into the gate potion business.

With tailoring, or smithing, I can make things that sell to other players for 10kpp-100kpp. With alchemy, I'm limited only to augments, and I have won only 2 rolls for augments since the expansion came out.
