  • Well they did it again=(

The expanssion is due out today, but it will get here tomorrow or thursday. after three late releases of expanssions i guess i should be used to it but it still buggs me. Objectivitly i can see why they do it. I cuts down on the ammount of people that have the patch server engaged at any one time.It also lets the people who take advantage of the buy online service get a little bonus because they can logg in before anyone else can. Still its irritating. I never buy online because i prefer to have a hard copy of my expanssion disk lying around in caase i need it. In other words i dont trust the complete online dowanload stuff. Sigh sony should get thier act together and say we are releasing it to those who bought it online first so the people who prefer to play it safe actually have a valid release date.

Umm.. I picked up a retail copy without a problem today. With the population of EQ lower than it has been in the past, stores most likely wont be sold out. Where I picked up my copy there was at least 20-30 on the shelf. Why pay the shipping when you can pick it up on the way home from work?

Why pick it up at all when you can just download it?

It's not like you can't just burn your Everquest directory onto a DVD or a few CD-ROMs and have your precious 'hard copy' for restores ....

I'm lucky to figure out how to burn a few songs on to a cd let alone figure out the burning of a game.. Me not much a techie....
Purchasing a hard copy does yield a bonus item which the downloaded version robs you of. you pay about same price but you get robbed of an item. i'll never understand that. My disk is my proof of purchase Me bit older fashion in that department i guess..

... now i'm rambling... waiting for this darn update to complete..... is it 3pm pacific time yet?

Yeah ... that's what's caused me to go with the boxed copy for the last several expansions. Same-or-cheaper price + free shipping + ingame item. And I don't play enough EQ, or care enough about it, for missing a few days, or even a few weeks, of a new expansion to matter much to me. Plus, much of the part I'm most interested in (tradeskills) can often be done without actually owning the expansion.

So significant lack of motivation for haste in purchasing it ... just find the best sale

              Downloading the Expansion

One word: dialup. Get DSL, you say? Not available. Get cable, you say? Again, not available.

Downloading the expansion takes over 24 hours on a dialup. Even starting with pre-release downloads, that means that eight or nine times before it goes live, I'll have a two hour wait to play. Buying it gets me an in-game doodad, a real-life geegaw to play with while I zone, and a twenty minute install!!! Woohoo!

So. There's one reason at least.

Remember, it's 2 minutes to run the CD, and then invariably I'll log in and have to pull one or two files to update, but since it's only one or two, it's twenty minutes to start instead of every **** file in the expansion.
