  • Task System Timer...ARRRGH!

I recently finished a task and went to look for a new task, however the timer until the next task listed a wait time of over 15,000 minutes. Yes, THOUSAND.
That works out to be just about 10 and 1/2 days of continuous playtime. That's right, continuous! The timer stops when you are logged out. Even Vendoring will still take 10 days to do another task.

I petitioned it. I was told to check my system clock and run an advanced file check on the patcher. Good suggestions, but no go. I repetitioned as the ticket was closed (not exactly good customer service, you get to claim to have resolved multiple issues when you have someone calling back again and again on the same problem). Now I have been directed to contact customer service for more direction. Maybe this patch will fix it. Not that anyone dares to admit to something being a know issue. I have seen that corporate mentality drive people over the edge.

    Clarification question:
    What lvl are Tasking at?
I normally task during my newbie lvls (1-20) due to the great exp, the timer has a 5 minutes. The higher lvls one might have to wait a bit longer. I never tried them at a higher lvl (40+) so i can't confirm anything... just a possiblity.

I am playing a level 48 Ranger. Good idea, but wouldn't you think the petition would have bounced back quickly letting me know I am an idiot, rather than just guessing I might be?

Also, my wait periods prior to this have not been anything like this long.

If there is an error then using the /bug option would be most effective. You most likely wont get a personal response, it will just give them the info that something needs to be fixed. If it's working properly you might want to do /feedback, friendly suggestions on tweaking the timer might go over a bit smoother. I guess i have /petitions reserved for when there are players being rude or interupting others game play (killstealing/harassment/claiming to "own" a zone/ect.)

Done the /bug and /Feedback thanks, but /Petition does include areas that inhibit game play due to software glitches, too. For example, getting stuck in a tree is a petitionable item. Also, after quite a bit of searching, I did find task system referenced in the petition options (though nothing comes up in the know issues).

I guess the big problem is that so few people do the tasks that if something is broken, it might not be tracked as easily as say raids for the highest end players.

            Hello Tillinghast,
I went through the entire database and didn't see any tasks or quests with a longer than normal retry timer on them. Do you know the name of the task or quest that you were doing?

            thanks,

If you get an error message with a time that seems outrageous like that, please check the year, day and time on your PC. Do not type /time. Exit EQ, and look at the taskbar, right click on the time and select "adjust date/time." Please make sure that your day and year are correct.

Official US time can be found at:
              http://nist.time.gov/

I am certain that other countries have similar websites.

Doesn't /time in EQ just read off the system clock, giving you the same time, day, and year as the Windows adjust date/time dialog?

Does feel weird that EQ is trusting the client's clock at some point to figure out the reset timers ... if you can elongate timers, stands to reason you could /probably/ (though not necessarily) shorten them, too.

I thought it only uses local PC time to estimate how much time is remaining, not the true time remaining which is server set. As I recall, that is how LDoN timers worked.
