  • Stupid Mammoths

Every time I go to hunt mammoths for meat in Everfrost, there's a bunch of them stuck in geometry along the river. You can't see them, you can't target them with f8, you can't AoE them. If the server stays up long enough, over half the spawns end up stuck like that. I don't know how many times I've bugged that over the last year. It's usually not that much of a problem on Test because the server goes down enough that you usually don't have more than a couple stuck at a time. But it's been up for a couple of straight weeks now, and last time I was there, there were 8 wooly mammoths and wooly mammoth calves stuck that way. It's officially getting old.

    Something to Try

You may want to try something that works on occasion, even through walls by my experience. Type "/target a_mamm" and sometimes it'll lock on the nearest mob that matches. Then it's up to you how you pull it out to where you can fight it, but at least you'll have it locked on target.

    Good hunting.

Go to EW. Forget EF entirely, EW drop rate is roughly the same, but tons more wooly meat-monkeys for the killing.

If you're a Beast/Druid/Shaman then you can use sense animals to get a target on them, /tar a sometimes works too.
EW has a similar problem but seems to usually be the kodiaks and ulthorks that get stuck.

          The Down Side

I'd agree, but with one warning. Eastern Wastes is a LOT farther to run, and for non-gating classes it's farther still because they have to run back. Also, one needs not run through giants and other higher-level trash to get there. Plus, without the Wayfarer's camp nearby, there's no convenient merchant to dump the trash if you're in for the long count, unless you're able to shop in Kael Drakkal.

None of these is a complete stopper, but it does make it much more convenient to go to Everfrost if the targetting trick helps.

EW can pop into Crystal Caverns to sell if you have the faction.

Easy to get down (just fall ) but nontrivial to get back up, heh.

There are 2 exits. One is back the way you came in, not hard once you learn the route. The other exit is out the geo tunnel.

There isn't that much trash to get in EW if all you do is kill meat monkeys.

Getting stuck in terrain features? Buy my new book: Terrain navigation for the stupid mob. It's available for only 200,000,000 platinum.

Ok.. I had the same issue.. and as a non-porting/gating class, it's sooo much easier to hunt in EF while waiting on an LDON...Here's what I found worked..(course, I do have tracking as a bard..) Track them down until you're basically standing on them, your tracking will say something like a wolly mammoth is straight ahead, you take a step and it says its behind you. then TYPE /tar_a it will target the *a wooly mammoth* 90 % of the time mine were in the rivers, just stand next to the targetting circle, and start HITTING, casting will get you no where til it pops. Once you hit it the first time, it will suddenly appear on your screen. most likely half in and half out of the river.
