ARGH!
I can't believe I'm the first one to scream about this patch.
I mean, I managed to survive not being able to play for most of the 15th, and now it's happening again, two days later? The bugs on my arm had barely gone away from last time...
Well, in order to avoid actually doing something productive with the time EQ was stealing, I worked out a system for going from 1 to 250 in baking using ONLY crab or cragbeast (or both) in Abysmal Sea.
There's this crazy pattern of:
recipe trivial
grilled crab meat 46
spiced crab meat 54
smoked crab meat 57
buttered crab meat 61
grilled cragbeast meat 61
spiced cragbeast meat 67
garlic-buttered crab meat 67
smoked cragbeast meat 72
lemon-buttered crab meat 72
buttered cragbeast meat 76
barbequed crab meat 76
garlic buttered cragbeast meat 82
beer-braised crab meat 82
lemon-buttered cragbeast meat 87
beer-battered crab meat 87
barbequed cragbeast meat 92
beer-braised cragbeast meat 96
And, in each, one, a progression of sandwich, stew, soup, et cetera, so that you can progress from the free 54 (or lower, if you don't want to do the quest skill-ups) through 250 with max speed.
And if you use crab/cragbeast, which give int/wis, then you can sell all of your products in bazaar at a hefty profit.
So this path essentially costs NOTHING, once you sell the int/wis food, and you can make the trivials you use as close as is reasonable to your skill level, while not having to leap around a bunch of disparate recipes.
What I did, recognizing the grilled/spiced/smoked/buttered pattern and the sandwich/stew/soup pattern, and how the trivials advance mathematically between them, was to write a little script which created a database of all the GoD recipes of that type. This lets me sort them by trivial, et cetera.
Now, if those effers don't get the servers back up soon, I'm gonna work out a Guide on how to use crab/cragbeast to max baking in the best time/profit.
I'll post it somewhere here when it's done. I also need to hunt down the address of some SOE developers and a company which sells horse's heads.
