It's supposed to represent that you are a roleplayer. I.E. if you are evil you will not talk to good folk and/or talk only in that character's language etc.

Most people however use it instead of /anon because you can still see the player's location in the guild roster and the guild name above his head.

      Yuck

I am really sorry that it happened to you, Niami. My chars are both genders but Froni is my main and has had more than enough people pestering her to be their girlfriend or do some other stupid flirtatious stuff. That is awkward enough without any of the more adult garbage that people pull. I am 40 years old in real life so I know how to shut down the overtures and to get out of uncomfortable situations, but geez, I feel bad for the young folks if they get harrassed by predatory fiends while just trying to play a game.

I have never understood how anyone can develop adult fantasies with what amounts to cartoon characters, but I guess that is another topic.

        It's extremely likely that I was old enough to be the sicko's mom. I hesitated to say that at the time, though, for fear that'd get him more excited. {rolls eyes}

Considering that I'd only been back to playing that character for a week, after taking a many-month break from her AND I spent that time soloing while I got used to being a druid again, it's not as if they met me somewhere on an alt and decided I was approachable.

This was someone who, simply, found my name while searching a /who all on either my race or class and decided to see if he could find a female willing to sell herself.

Thankfully, I am old enough to simply view the incident with distaste, not feel threatened by it, but I truly worry for what happens when impressionable youngsters get hit on by such filth.

I play a female character (which I am in RL). I know of several players that are male that play female characters - normally roleplaying appropriately.
I have not experienced too much harassment. only in my earlier days when 2 newbie idiots thought it would be funny to make obseen /emotes. I did petition them.
Another time a bunch of guildies (all female) were gathered in tox for a going away party for a member. all of us getting drunker by the second. some idiot newbie male decided to offer to pimp us out. I proceeded to duel him drunk, squashed the little man like a bug.

I'm not above flirting a bit though. /illusion half-elf sometimes if I'm in an all-boy group just for the heck of it then switch to /illusion troll

I said this in the "Most Dreaded /tell" thread...
... asking random... or semi-random ... strangers for money...

            That's bad...

but asking random strangers of gender (let alone persuasion/kink) unknown for cyber....

I still remember one incident from the spring of 2000. I was playing a dwarf female paladin when a male dwarf started following me around and every time I stopped to loot something or sit down, he was putting his character at my back or in front of my face, using emotes and ducking to try and simulate sexual activity.

I found this juvenile and distasteful. Of course, there were no GMs on, though I did send a /petition. I got a rough sort of revenge when I went in an area of BB that was tough for me at level eight (but I survived!) and totally blew him away at level 2 or 3.

                I don't play male charactors. I don't want to. I /like/ being a chick, durnit.

First EQ char was a human monk. She was occasionally flirted with, but nothing severe (or tangible, really).

Iroke (wood elf druid), my main from about Feb 2003 till Jan 2004, literally means "Sexy" in Japanese. I did it as an experiment. And: Never once, never ONCE was she offered/asked for cyber.

However, somewhere in that time frame, I made a little mule-ho named Rinse... who, at creation, met a young male wood elf rogue who was too new to the game to understand everything. I am a softy to polite noobs, answered his questions, might have given him 10p or something... conversation continued, and he, really embarrasedly, eventually asked me to cyber.

I laughed. A lot. And politely declined.

To this day, the sheer.... /irony/ there, just... amuses me. That my main was never touched... but a random mule was. That's all I can really say. I'm amused.

Neither Tink, my main since Jan 2004, nor Naki, druid-bot, created, um, sometime since then, have ever received random cyber propositions.

If I /did/..... *ponders*. Yeah, I'd be pretty grossed out. That's a rather personal-decision-kinda-thing to be asking of a total stranger, and /that/ means it's crude.

Then again, maybe that's /why/ they go after total strangers.... no attachments. But then someday you'd see them somewhere running around and go "ewww... I know far too much about that person.... *shudder*."

Well, I suppose trying to make sense out of something that just doesn't is just an exercise in futility............

Almost every female toon in my old guild has been hit on several times. What's worse is at least two of the members with female characters who are KNOWN to be RL ladies (note I said ladies NOT women) have been actively stalked in game repeatedly. AKA some jerk following them around, sending them tells, trying to start/simulate a relationship with them. Got reported several times, RL relationships got messed with because the slime started sending tells to every male toon the characters were with saying that he was "with" them, etc. At least one stalker finally started training the lady he was stalking and random guild members after he was reported again and put on ignore. Sony didn't do a thing about it. I believe someone (s) finally started training him everytime he left PoK and he eventually went away. But training is against the EULA so that must be an inacurate third hand story...

Best answer I've seen to a random request for cyber: a buxom barbarian informing a_clueless_moron that in RL she's a 200 lb. male marine sergant who choose this character because she's hot. Completely accurate and scared the bejeezus outta the wannabe Romeo (Tora, you totally rock!)

I love it!! I am so going to use that...even if it's not remotely true

I really haven't had much trouble with this, which sounds odd given the other experiences described here. I've had the very occasional schmuck try a moderately lewd emote. I usually respond with a reply emote of a knee to the groin or such, and that's the end of it. But if it's ever truly disgusting, it'd get /reported and a not remotely amused rebuke ensue in tells. I've never gotten any completely random requests for cyber. There was just that time I ran too close by a couple of wood elves sitting in a corner of Felwithe (and NOT in a room ), not bothering to use tells....

In one of the patches a while back, the Nathsar BP my female wood elf druid was wearing went from a turtleneck to a *deep* V-neck! That is just encouraging to those folks. So far they haven't done that with the Elysian tunic I have now, it would be hard to replace the stats on that so I don't look like I'm about to pop out of my armor all the time.

My male halfling cleric was my first character. I created him to join some real life friends for weekly adventuring in 2001. We're still a group with the "family name" of Sixovus and slowly leveling together since we have a "no twinking, no outside experience" policy.

Since our group doesn't do experience-gaining activities outside of our weekly adventure, I decided to start tradeskilling with my cleric. So I started a druid to collect raw materials for him. I decided that (IMHO) wood elves seemed like the most useful race to be a druid -- at least at the lower levels. Since male wood elves look like nancy boys anyway , I started a female wood elf for a little more roleplaying challenge.

I've never had anyone make cyber requests. A little mild flirting and offers of gifts. But a raised eyebrow (/eye target) and polite declining of any offers has always worked for her (I play her as I imagine Emma Thomson might behave as a wood elf druid ).
