  • Enchanters don't chant. Shamans do chant. Enchanters aren't chanters!

Enchanters are not chanters. Chanters are not enchanters.

Grrrrrrr! This is one of the few things that's more annoying than a broken mez.

For an example of shamans who chant, I recommend a visit to the city of Kael Drakkel. You'll never catch an enchanter doing that.

Well, if you want to get technical about it, shamans don't chant either, because there's no such thing as "shamans". The plural of shaman is shaman, as it is an adopted Siberian word, from a language that handles plurals differently.

Not that "shamans" hasn't fallen into common usage, but if you want to get picky over abbreviations I'll get picky over plurals.

                Leetah wins.

And I always pluralized it "shamen"... seeing as how when words fall into other languages, sometimes they start getting treated similarly to words from that language....

*briefly wonders if all the female shamen will want to be called 'shamyn' someday....*

I have been known to chant "idiot, idiot, IDIOT!" after the same guy breaks one of my mezes eight battles in a row.

I usually feel a little better after I run directly at him and root the mob though.

You can chant if you want to. You can leave your friends behind, cause your friends dont chant and if they dont chant, well, theyre no friends of mine.

Nope, librarian. So I obsess in the same way an english teacher does, but about all subjects, not just english.

For the record, the fine folks at the Shaman's Crucible get credit for that tidbit, as I originally read it there.

There's a fun little word in Japanese: Baka. (BAH-kah.) It means "idiot", but being two syllables, a person can get more iterations out in the same amount of breath.

Useful for mez-breakers and people who drive through red lights and stop signs.

                              Two entirely different things.

                              ENCHANT

\En*chant"\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. Enchanted; p. pr. & vb. n. Enchanting.] [F. enchanter, L. incantare to chant or utter a magic formula over or against one, to bewitch; in in, against + cantare to sing. See Chant, and cf. Incantation.] 1. To charm by sorcery; to act on by enchantment; to get control of by magical words and rites.

And now about the caldron sing, Like elves and fairies in a ring, Enchanting all that you put in. --Shak.

He is enchanted, cannot speak. --Tennyson.

                              2. To delight in a high degree; to charm; to enrapture; as, music enchants the ear.

Arcadia was the charmed circle where all his spirits forever should be enchanted. --Sir P. Sidney.

Syn: To charm; bewitch; fascinate. Cf. Charm.

                              CHANT

\Chant\, n.[F. chant, fr. L. cantus singing, song, fr. canere to sing. See Chant, v. t.] 1. Song; melody.

                              2. (Mus.) A short and simple melody, divided into two parts by double bars, to which unmetrical psalms, etc., are sung or recited. It is the most ancient form of choral music.

                              3. A psalm, etc., arranged for chanting.

                              4. Twang; manner of speaking; a canting tone. [R.]

His strange face, his strange chant. --Macaulay.

                              Ambrosian chant, See under Ambrosian.

Chant royal [F.], in old French poetry, a poem containing five strophes of eleven lines each, and a concluding stanza. -- each of these six parts ending with a common refrain.

                              Gregorian chant. See under Gregorian.

Anyone who meditates may be a chanter as many monks, shaman, priests, etc., etc., actually chant while meditating.
