  • Ebay'd, or just that dumb?

Hello all! I've never posted, but have lurked since I first got hooked on tradeskilling, and this is one of my very favorite boards! Anyway, I wanted to relate something incredible that happened to me today in PoK, on the Maelin Starpyre server.

I was casting mind buffs on my enchanter for about 5 hours, while also doing some baking subcombines. After numerous people had shouted over the top of me, and one person even went so far as to sit in my lap to cast their own Kei, I finally said the heck with it and went full bore tradeskilling.

After a little while, I saw someone MGBing Kei, and since I was logging soon, and obviously wouldnt need it, I OOC'd that I would MGB VQ. So, I run there and someone asks me not to VOQ over the Kei.. I calmly explained that VQ is Vallons Quickening, a high level haste spell, not the mana regeneration spell, Voice of Quellious. I didnt receive any reply, so I went ahead and cast, and went my merry way.

Not 5 minutes later, I saw another 65 enchanter shouting that they were MGBing Kei, and they had to hurry up or some jerk would cast VoQ over it. Puzzled, I asked who on earth would do that, and the very same person I spoke to earlier said that I would, and that I had just a minute ago. Laughing and so in shock I could barely type, I explained again what I'd cast, and she argued with me for about 5 minutes. Thinking, perhaps, that she was very new and had maybe just reached the level where these spells could hit her, I did a /who and found to my complete dismay - 65 cleric of one of the top guilds on the server.

I camped after that, because I couldnt decide if I should laugh, cry,{edit: Implied violence removed. Careful there! ~Lothay}.

Is it possible the cleric was getting thier jollies by acting ignorant? Nah...

      Sorry Lothay.
I too at first thought NO one can be that dumb, right? I think my faith in humanity has been shaken too much to take it as a joke, what with all the U'rs and l8r m8's and WTB various no drop items, coming from the supposed (Even by me, at one time) elite of the EQ society. I think next time I see that particular cleric or chanter I WILL MGB VoQ.

Heh. Maybe not ebay, but fairly dense either way.

Had some ask a bard in my guild if they were a druid. The bard was holding her epic(sword with little notes floating around it) and in the other hand a drum not to mention the plate look to her armor.

Reminds me of a LDoN adventure I went on a wgile ago. At the end one of the peeps asked if we were going to port out or run. Jokingly, I said, " Didn't you know that druids haven't had the ability to port since they released PoP?"
And the guy says, oh, ok, so we run. And 4 of the 6 in the group ran out, 2 made it to the zone and were zoning before the Shaman that had stayed with me pointed out that I was just joking.

Even though the EULA expressly states that SOE is not interested in customers under the age of 13 (not their target audience) and that if they learn someone under 13 owns an account they will delete it, I frequently see folks stating their age as less than 13. (I don't know if said individuals are being truthful or not, but I do see the statement.)

So it's slightly possible that you were dealing with a young kid (possibly playing Mom or Dad's character) who just hasn't paid attention.

Or it may have been someone who speaks English only as a second (or third) language, so their comprehension level would be less than a "native" English / American speaker.

Or it may have been someone just in a foul mood, who was determined to think the worst... or too arrogant to listen to anybody else.

Though it's possible someone bought the character, most guilds will disband sold characters in a heartbeat (or less!). Reputable guilds generally won't suffer fools gladly, either.

However, I must agree entirely that there are definitely folks out there who need someone to
give them a dollar so they can buy a clue.
              /sigh.

I still maintain that human beings are the most amazing and bizarre creatures on the planet.

That may have been true at one time, but I know for a fact that many of the *uber* guilds on BB have eBayed/creatively-aquired toons in their ranks. They don't care anymore, so long as a body is there to raid I guess.

Having had the joy of interacting with more than a few eBayed toons I can testify to their lack of skill and/or knowledge but yet these same fools get through their app process to uber guilds despite admitting they are eBayed /boggle

                  kiddo accounts?

Erm, that's not exactly true. Children under 13 are more than welcome to play and "own" accounts, as long as the account is in their parent or guardian's name and the child has that parent/guardian's permission, and the parent does not share the account. They won't delete the accounts of pre-teens because of their age.

I've seen plenty of 10 - 13 year olds playing...and strangely enough, some of them are more mature than the adults, especially, it seems, on FV - lots of serious little junior RPers.

I play a wizard, currently 62 (yay bot). Yesterday I had a 65 enchanter ask if i could port. I told them wizards can't port. They said "oh" and immediately started shouting for a druid to port them to Hate. I found it somewhat amusing.

That's because they aren't old enough yet to be the cynical, vile people you sometimes run into on EQ. Isn't innocence nice? To them, it really is just a game, not crack as many of us have termed it.

PS - cynical, vile people comment is not intended for anyone specific, either here or in game. just a descriptor for those we complain about in here sometimes.

I was in an LDoN with all 65's... two of us kept dying to the poison traps that nobody could disarm... When asked why our 65 Froglok Cleric wasn't curing the poison... he responded...

"I'm not high enough to cast that spell... what level is it?"

After we gave him a list of the Cure Poison spell lines and what level he gets them... he still couldn't "find" them in his spellbook and was "confident" that Clerics didn't get any spells that cured poisons...

We promptly left the adveture, and 5 adventurers had a new person to add to their /ignore list... as well as their personal "NEVER EVER GROUP WITH THIS PERSON" list...

Whether stupid or eBay'd... these people should warn us first... I'll group with you and show you the ropes if you're so interested in just playing a high level char, or if you're stupid and need some more help... but don't try to pass off as a great player who reached 65 on his wits and abilities...

I was doing some trials with our guild a couple months ago. It was a mini raid of no more then 20 peeps. 6 went in at a time.

After the second failed attempt, but no deaths our group warrior w/ 9.5k juicy hps asked our group if anyone had Greater Remove Curse as he was slowed. Nooone replied. he then asked the guild in /say. At which time I asked jokingly, in /group "does it have to be Greater remove curse?". Replied "yes, as its as 60+ slow"

                          Anyhow..

I hit him some four times w/ 'lesser remove curse'. he replied thanks in /say. I replied in /group, "your welcome, that was done w/ a lvl 24 spell".... "oh"

Ive since moved on to remove curse. Although I rarely use it, as I often dont raid.

That's an interesting point, Darknyss, but there's another side to that... Quartic is afraid to go anywhere I haven't been with him first. He doesn't want to run into "strange people" and be mocked for being 51, but not having the knowledge you'd expect of a lvl 51 wizard. (In /that/ regard, there's an entire sub-discussion that could be had, tho I don't encourage it in this thread, about the "unfriendlyness of EQ towards casual play".) There are people who would rather train him so he dies, rather than help him learn the zone and the ropes and show him around. And I know that mentality is at least a bit more common than your kinder one.

Sometimes it's not a matter of being either stupid /or/ Ebayed... there are a hundred little things an experienced player can flub on. Like, forgetting that K9 combo has more hp than straight virtue alone... it's just less AC. Or thinking that a high level slow absolutely must have a high level cure. Who knows, maybe someone /told/ him that, and he had no reason at the time to disbelieve them.

Then again, sometimes it /is/ a matter of being stupid. 65 wizzys do not get to ask, "harvest? what's that lol". *cries*
