I got this email the other day.... Name removed to protect the guilty.

    From: {email removed}
    To: <admin@mboards.eqtraders.com>
    Subject: sdorts??

K WHO WAS THE IDIDOT WHO PUT TOGETHER THE VENDOR’S LIST??

If I knew what vendor I needed , I would not be searching…the ****ed db should be sorted on item, not vendor!! If I want to buy vinegar, I don’t want to go thru every vendor in the list – not even every one in list by zone…I want to go to “vinegar” and find every vendor whop sells it. Who was sitting on their brains? Further…a db is only as a good as its sorts…every db should be re-sortable on any component contained in the db. Get it together folks. Same with recipes. I should be able to type in an ingredient and get a list of every recipe that contains that ingredient.
I wonder some times about people......... I had to retype my response about 3 times to not fall to this persons level. I may have been a little snippy in my opening, but I tried!

#1 there is a search... guess what, it searches on item... you can get to it by clicking on search, or on the left hand menu on the bottom of it is a text entry field. enter in your item... vinegar you get this page http://www.eqtraders.com/search/search.php?data[item]=vinegar&min=0 with 2 items... they happen to be seaweed vinegar and vinegar. Click on vinegar and you get this page http://www.eqtraders.com/items/show_...r=035000000000 which lists all the vendors that an item has. On this page AND the previous page is a link for "Find recipes that use this item" http://www.eqtraders.com/search/reve...r=035000000000 that shows the recipes that an item uses.

So... you are suggesting on the left hand menu... I put in all items in the game that relate to tradeskills? (we have about 11000 items) so that you can slog through the 11k items to find the item you want instead of just searching for the item and getting the information you want? The vendor lists ARE for people who want the the opposite "sort" of just searching for the item.

We figured people would want to SEARCH on items instead of browsing on items... and then gave them the other sort methods of finding sources of by tradeskill or by zone if they wanted another way of looking at finding items instead of a search.
Bah on second thought... I was snippy... oh well!

Thank you for sharing that email, Ngreth. Reading it made me laugh the hardest I have all week. And I don't think your reply was snippy at all.

I had to deal with an idiot like that in-game the other day. Basically, I ended up saying, "You're complaining (I used a different word...) about FREE information from a FREE site that is maintained for FREE by people who spend a lot of money, time, and hard work putting it together? You should be overwhelmingly grateful that it's even there!"

After that, they were sufficiently cowed.

I no longer wonder. I just accept the fact that some people need a reality check or thirty when they lose all touch with civilization over stuff associated game.

I have a four pound hammer with "Clue" inscribed on the side for some of the more frustrating people I meet. The best of them need only see the hammer to get the clue. As for the rest... It's best if I don't admit to anything.

Sigh... I am really sorry that you have to deal with such numbskulls.

I make more than my share of nitwitted remarks and do lots of stupid things, but I always try and keep perspective regarding that this is a game with REAL people behind the toons.

We need something like "The Total Perspective Vortex" to give some folks a little taste of reality. I really have to wonder at times...

It boggles the mind that people will waste more time typing up an email than stopping for one minute to look to see if they have maybe missed something... /sigh

hehehehe.... that's probably a little more weildy than the one I have... a 2.5 foot 2x6 with carved handle and "Board of Education" engraved on the side. Luckily, I"ve only ever had to threaten with it.

                        *sigh*

Having just started a job as a Database Administrator, I should probably get used to seeing emails like this
Grolber - Cavalier of Brell on Venril Sathir
Malathos Thriceborn - Wizard of Venril Sathir

I, also, could not think of a single response to that email that I could post without getting banned. Not just edited... banned.

                              *deep breath*

                              *times two*

"did your parents have any kids who lived?" just about covers it...

Lucky for us Ngreth/denmom (I can never remember how to spell, looks down, Niami) are a lot more "stable" and honorable than I.

                              My, considered, response.

Lock the website and message board for a week. Replace the front pages with a copy of the email. With the return address and internet lookup visible. And a comment at the bottom that people like this have cause me to take a break for a week to calm down.

A friend, and I use that term loosely, once sent me a picture of a kitten. I love cats. And the caption?

"Every time you <insert here>, God kills a kitten."

Or, a new favorite I'm trying to work into my sig on another site....

"<insert here> makes the baby Jesus cry."

                              Perhaps...

"The charm-nerf makes the baby Jesus cry."

                              or

"Would you like to pre-order Omens or Two now?"
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.
