  • "Leave Your Pets At Home"

Yep, that's the sign I want placed over the entrance to the Bazaar - "Leave Your Pets At Home".

Make no mistake, I welcome the zoning pets but we now face the prospect of the bazaar slowing down not because of the vendors but because of all their pets. While the vendors disappear with the new hide traders function, their pets don't and the new zoing pets have now resulted in swarms of pets cluttering up the aisles and becoming a right pain in the neck for navigation while their errant masters are AFK in the stalls.

Please folks, when you are trading in the bazaar, do your pet a favour and let it get some sleep at home, don't make it have to wait for you all night - it's just cruelty.

Yikes. I don't even want to think about it.

Though the zoning pets are a huge boon...

      *click begin trader*

"Sorry, you currently have a pet. Please suspend or dismiss your pet before beginning trading."

Think that would eliminate the problem.

        It's not just the bazaar.

PoK / PoT were already laggy enough for me. Now with pets, PoK in particular is painful.

Then there was the person who summoned a pet, grew it to giant size, and parked it in front of the doors of the main bank in PoK. IMHO, that's just rude.

Please folks... zoning pets/warders is a great boon, but please be considerate of your fellow players in crowded and laggy zoneszones.

I'd hate to say it, but if they were this ignorant to realize what is going on, do you think they really care?

We all have those players who just act like (censored), and even though they don't break any rules, it's rude to the other players. *Sigh* and there used to be a thing called consideration in the game (but that started to go away with the addition of Luclin).

Now we need a new command "/hidepets pc". It would really help in PoK and bazaar.

              The law of un-intended consequences:

If you flap your arms in New York on Tuesday at precisely 12:00 as you face north on 42nd street, a bit later a ocean wave will knock down the sand castle of a child in Australia.

Well, I hope you get the idea. There are so many different things going on in Norrath, that it is hard to keep track of all of the consequences of a change.

You might say "Why don't they test these things?"

Answer - They do test. However on their development box(es), and on the Test server the population is so low, things like the Pets staying up in the bazaar causing problems is NOT apparant to them.

The correct resolution of the problem is to have not only the TRADER hidden when one does a "/hidetrader" function, but any pets the trader may have should be hidden as well.

Making the **poof** will get people whining "Hey I zoned to bazaar and my pet went bye-bye"...

If you prevent people with pets becoming traders, they will whine "Hey I want my pet to stay while I am in trader mode, I don't want to resummon them later"

My suggestion does not affect the pet (except by visibility) from those people who DO NOT want to see them, by their own choice. Neither the pet, nor the pet's owner is tweaked, just how you, the bazaar roamer chooses to see or not see trader pets.

Perhaps when zoning into certain zones that get lagged down easily, such as POK and the Bazaar, pets go into a "cloakroom" and then come back to you when you leave the zone. At any time while in that zone you could get your pet back (like to give it pet toys, bazaar Arena, etc), but generally most people would leave their pet in the "cloakroom" while shopping or whatnot.

I have no idea if this is easily implemented or not. Just an idea.

                      Another possible idea:

-a Pet Invis spell (all pets & warders & even wizard flappies would get this ) that is triggered automatically when zoning in to PoK and Bazaar only, and pet can become visible again when the master gives it the /pet yoohoo command....and after 2 minutes it will re-invis. ?

What adds a bit more trickiness to the bazaar is the PvP arena in that zone; so it would need to be something that applies to traders only, rather than all pets in zone.

Whatever the solution, I think it needs to include stopping spell messages from pets that cast. After going Trader overnight for the first time in a long time, I woke up to a chorus of:

Kazann begins to cast a spell.
Varer begins to cast a spell.
Kazann begins to cast a spell.
Varer begins to cast a spell.
Kazann begins to cast a spell.
Varer begins to cast a spell.
Kazann begins to cast a spell.
Varer begins to cast a spell.
Kazann begins to cast a spell.
Varer begins to cast a spell.
Kazann begins to cast a spell.
Varer begins to cast a spell.

For the record, other people's pets casting falls under the Other category in the filter. Handily enough, so do people's feign messages and that yellow line of instructions you get when you open the Bazaar search window. The only useful thing I've found that also falls under that category is the message that tells you when your Bazaar search turned up too many results to display. So I added this category to my Spam window but rearranged the window to show just the very last line of text instead of being scrunched into a tiny little box in the corner.

They've split many of the usefull things out of "other" lately, so I'm not sure if this still is in there or not, but NPC messages (i.e. responses when you hail them or interact with them for quests) used to fall into "other" as well. So if you've got "other" in your "spam" window, you might want to check this next time you need to talk to an NPC.

I'd certainly LOVE to have that split out, because I'd like to put it in my "main chat" window with the rest of my "communication" stuff (i.e. chat channels, emotes) rather than stuck over in a window I rarely even look at.

                              *sigh*

NO you cannot prevent pets from entering the Bazaar. (As you have to WALK thru the bazaar on some trips.)

NO making them invisible is NOT sufficient. Hide all traders, then try to walk thru them. Oops. They still EXIST you just can't see them. Not a problem for most things, but if you add pets, which can stand ANYWHERE not just under the stalls, to the "invisible stuff to trip over" set of objects it quickly becomes highly annoying. Not to mention the fact that the SERVER can't hide them. Less lag -for you- doesn't equal -less lag for the server- in this case.

Yes, people will complain that they don't want to resummon their pet. Which is, precisely, why I said "suspend or dismiss" (exact wording, go check) rather than "dismiss or suspend" ... It reminds people that for the cheap price of 5 AA points they get to suspend the pet, and for a measly 3 more they get to suspend them WITH BUFFS and the timers don't run out. Not level 62/64? Sorry but your pet would be buffless and you would certainly have regained sufficient mana to resummon, so it's just plain a non-issue. You -cannot- enter trader mode with a pet up. Just want to be trader mode for a few minutes? Oh, why didn't you SAY so... Hand your stuff to a mule (it's GOTTA be tradeable right?) log out and come back in under 30 minutes, as pets are No Rent now. Ta-dah! ("Gosh Itek, you are a -super-genius- to be so smarty." ... "No, Billy, I just can read the patch messages and what the dev's obviously intended.")

Coding it would take adding a "flag check" the the "begin trader" section of code. Simple. Just put it in there next to the lines that check to see if you are under a stall.
