  • Why is it that.....

Yesterday I spent several hours collecting crystalline silk for a tailoring push. I expected a long slow painful tailoring session where I struggled to get the skill-ups I needed so I collected a nearly a full backpack of swatches and bought a half a backpack full of silver threads.

    I got 9 skill-ups in 16 combines. .........

Why is it that if I push it and only collect exactly what think I need I never seem to get a skill-up and have to go out farming again but if I have a ton of supplies I seem to get skill-ups incredibly fast and am left with a ton of suppies I'll never need again?

I passed on my good fortune and auctioned the rest of the stuff off at the far less than bazaar value (200pp for 54 threads and 101 swatches). I hope someone else gets as lucky as I did but I still feel like I wasted the whole day.

It's like a few things I do in real life. Double checking my jack and my spare tire before a long trip ensures that I won't get a flat. Keeping extra money set aside for unexpected bills keeps them at bay. It seems that sometimes Murphy holds out for when you're not prepared.

Don't forget to farm enough siren hairs, wolf whiskers, manticore manes and giant beards for two threads. You'll succeed on the first one. Every time. (I do this with my guildies a lot, it's become a running joke)
