We all know that the player base of EQ isn't going to collectively throw in the towel (even though that would stand the best chance of getting any real changes - ie look at the warrior protest).

So, alot of feedback lately has been people saying stuff like " I only log in to chat with friends" or "If my friends didn't play, I'd quit too".

Well, lets make that assumption. Lets say all your RL friends quit. Everyone you play with IG too, so the guild folds. All your old groupies move off.

    Would you:

I quit. No friends means no fun.
    62.16%
    46
I stay. I play EQ because I like it, not because my friends play.
    37.84%

    The poll is expired.

My RL friends are 90 percent of my guild. My guildmates are 90 percent of my in game friends as well. If they all quit, I'm done. It's been too long to start over, looking for new friends and a new guild. Now, if a few in game friends still played, I might app their guild, though they are more raid-intense then my current, but that's not real likely.

      Quit.

I play for a very small number of people.

I've tried playing an MMORPG in isolation. It gets old, fast - especially in a game like EQ that doesn't have constantly added new all-level content.

If everyone quit, I would too. It'd probably be a month or two before I hit "Cancel", but it would happen.

I'd probably stay as I am now. RL friends have already pretty much quit and I play about an average of 6-8 hours/month. Sadly, this means that new content seems to be getting further ahead of me. I do seem to gain levels a little faster than SoE adds to the cap; so I should be able to reach it by 2010 or so.

I don't have any RL friends that play. Well, my son and daughter play, but we don't play together since we have to share a PC. My son has one RL friend that plays and I hear his mother is now playing, but 1) I barely know her and 2) She plays on a different server than I do.
So, it's definately not my friends that have kept me playing for more than three years now. I guess I'm having fun just playing the game.

Interesting so far. I'll admit that I had no preconcieved notions on how it would turn out, but I HAVE been surprised that its maintained a 60/40 split almost the entire time.

I keep playing 'cause of Iannyen. <3 Iannyen

Really, though...if my friends (rl and in game) quit...I'd stop playing. EQ wouldn't be much fun if there wasn't someone to talk to.

I voted quit but imho the option "I would make new friends!" is missing

It's sort of funny. I had no interest in EQ, and didn't even know it existed. One of my friends in real life was raving about this game, and I decided the prospect of being able to play a game with him would be fun and decided to get it. He ended up having to quit because of real life complications when he was like level 12. I didn't know anyone. I continued playing and made new friends. I still don't know anyone in real life that plays EQ, but I have made many friends through it.

However, if all of my friends had quit EQ when I was still playing, I would've left. In my later months, I logged in more to talk and play with my friends than actually to play the game itself. There were many nights where I would log in purely to chat. If they were gone, I would've left too.

If my husband moves to another MMORPG, so will I. That's the only reason I left EQ two years back and the reason why we came back this spring.

I prefer EQ to all other MMORPGs I've seen or tried, but since I have not the time and money to maintain multiple subscriptions, I will play whatever he plays.

Happily, he's content back in EQ right now.
