Ok, I haven't been this close to cancelling my account as far back as I can remember.
If I continue to Lock-up and freeze in PoK, and now Shadow Haven, I'm going to scream, yell, and do a number of unpleasent things.
And if anyone thinks it's just me, Check the Tech Support boards on the Station. It's widespread.
This DX9 graphics engine implementation has been , hands down, the WORST thing to happen to everquest that I can recall (but then , I only started 22 months ago). People crash and their computers freeze, their video cards suddenly become unsupported. People are getting stuck in the geometry so frequently that it's become a joke. People get stuck on steps, trapped in doors, not to mention players and NPCs alike being stuck halfway in the floor. And this is just the people that can actually log in.
This isn't even a beta of the DX9 Graphics engine. It's an Alpha. It's made the game all but unplayable for me in a few specific zones (which I use as hubs,no less). With the exception of a few replies in the tech support forum, I've seen NOTHING from Sony to apologize, or own up to the problem.
The last 2-3 patches we've seen "Made improvements to zone geometry. Fixed graphics issues". But as soon as a few get fixed, a dozen more pop up. Sony needs to roll back to the old graphics engine. Put this back in testing for a few more months, listen to their Testers, and re-release it when and if it works.
A free month , or portion thereof, wouldn't hurt for all the people who've spent weeks troubleshooting or unable to play. But I don't honestly think that it's a valid compensation to ask for.
I hope that I've managed to stick to bashing the graphic engine, and it's implementation, and not ventured into "Sony-Bashing". If I crossed into it, I apologize, but I'm a very angry halfling. And an unsatisfied customer.
