The Most Dreaded /tell Phrase

Some of my most dreaded (but sometimes favorite) tells are:

Random Person: Will you summon pet gear for me?
Me: Sorry, on my way to a raid.
Random Person: It'll only take a minute.
Me: I'm three zones away now. If you'd really like some, head to the bazaar.
Random Person: All the merchants in the bazaar are rip offs.
Me: Thank you for calling me a rip off, I admire your honesty.

Random tells for ports have really begun to annoy me. I used to be easy-going, but its gotten tiresome.

All /role does is get me requests for kei, pet weapons, clarity, and yes...SOE. Never mind the flappy at my shoulder, I'm a dark elf in robes

Easier to just say "Oh, sorry, no portal fragments on me."

My most hated /tell or /ooc is:

Do you have any spare plat/weapons/armor?

I can't stand beggars in any form. I usually respond to such tells by say that they demean themselves by begging, followed by permanent /ignore.

I'm more than willing to help new players and have spent a lot of time describing a good place to hunt or what to do for an epic encounter since those requests mean they are willing to go and do some work for themselves. /ooc beggars for gear or plat in PoK make me sick are are mostly not even new players, just old players new to the server being lazy.

I wish I got tells like that. I could have so much fun with that, that's several weeks worth of quality jesting material. Especially on a female char. Pretending to be a gay man in RL can be so entertaining in a game heavily populated with straight young men. (since we don't have an evil smile smiley) Instead I just get beggars and friends complaining about so and so raid.

Heh. I could write massive epic novels on the questions that make me twitch.

"hi" definitely makes me twitch in a big way as it generally ends up being someone who can't rub complete words together to make complete sentences, that takes them 2-5 minutes per abbreviated not-sentence to type.

Don't get me started on tradeskill questions. I'll have nightmares for weeks.

Or gear/cash begs from total strangers.

Or PLing requests from total strangers.

Or buff requests from total strangers that want me to chase all over one or more zones to give them free buffs.

Or the ones that ask a DE enchantress wearing robes for a SoW.

"Wanna play my casino?"

"Can u link me ur weapon?" - this one sounds innocent enough, but when it's a level 6 tank asking a level 65 caster about a no-drop caster-only weapon, it usually ends with a "wow, u have cool gear -- pp for a newb, plz?"

I just laugh at the ones that start asking my bazaar mule's (20 mage) AFK message for groups. She's wearing all of 1 item of clothing these days, and couldn't fight a flea.

My enchantress is an Erudite... same thing happens to me.

I've got my inspect message set to something like "I don't give to beggars. Anything I have to give away will go to folks who ask for nothing." I once had a guy inspect me then /tell me "Can I have nothing?" Made me laugh, but didn't work.

I got this one the other day while doing a Tipt expedition.

I too have received some of those dreaded "SoW" "KEI" "Buff plz" requests, even though I'm a Halfling carrying 2 Daggers. And when I told them I'm a Thief, I got these strange replies like... "Oh, that's what a Blackguard is".

But this is my worst tell I ever received and am glad it went no further than tells.

A couple of years ago I received a tell from someone saying they were a friend from another server. They wanted to look at my character because they had a low level Rogue they were leveling and wanted to see what it would be like to have the character at higher levels. I started to wonder what was going on, but all of a sudden the person came back with the name of someone I knew on the other server and I thought about letting them see my character.

Somehow we never connected up and I'm glad we didn't. I found out from my friend the next day that it was not him on my server and he told me that it was probably some scammer who was looking to take over my account.

I am extremely wary of getting tells from people I don't know now.

Glad I don't have a Druid/Enchanter/Cleric or I'd probably go into tell overload that you guys get all the time

"Are you busy?" is mine. The conversation that follows is usually one detailing some obscure place this total stranger died, when they really shouldn't have been there to begin with. They now need a summon.

Recently, I sent a tell to someone in PoK who /ooc'd they needed some help from a Necro or Bard. I had finished a long run of smithing combines and thought a break would be good for my sanity.

You tell Stranger, 'Where did you die?'
Stranger tells you, 'I'm not dead.'
You tell Stranger, 'What did you need a Necro or Bard from?'

This person proceeds to tell me that they keep running out of mana while buffing people in PoK, and demands that I twitch them. I tell them no, because I was busy. Apparently they didn't like that answer, because they proceeded to send me nasty tells about how I was not a very good Necromancer and what a horrible insulting person I was. Haha.

I quickly took it to /ooc myself, and shut them up, along with their buff whoring spam pretty quickly.

I've also been asked for: SoW (the person got angry when I couldn't cast it), ports, and KEI (But you could have been in an illusion....).

Right-o. I'm in Iksar form with a specter pet up at the bank. Enchanters have a new undead pet, pal.

Last night after I finished a pair of LDONs I wanted to use some of my supplies I had cluttering up my backpack. I noticed I was 1 mistletoe temper from making a few sickle attempts so I ported to Nro to run to Oasis for elven wine (is there any in PoK???) when a chat window opens

Wait!

I stop and an ogre runs up huffing and puffing

I pause for a little while and assume maybe its an ESL thing so i /r sure 1 sec let me mem.

Sit down, loadup Translocate: Knowledge
Stand up. Start to cast.. 'xxxOgre fades away' i start to run to the gypsies

Hey xxxOgre is still in my target window

I mean Nexus!

Ok, a little mad now, but still had a good day and plenty of portal fragments.

Sit down, mem Nexus TL, cast and away he goes.

No thank you, TY, man you rock, wizards are the rule or anything..

hmmm...

while I find these stories funny and in some cases very sad, it does touch on an issue that bothers me a bit. How does one approach someone with a request? I certainly don't want to end up as dumb_newb01 on a thread like this... and sometimes I have questions and or requests in game... Politeness is very important of course, but still...
